Weezer Announce PACIFIC DAYDREAM Album With New Single “Mexican Fender”

Last year, Weezer released a self-titled album, which is unofficially referred to as The White Album, so you could forgive Rivers Cuomo and company for taking some time to breathe. It turns out, though, that they’re too busy for breathing: They just announced that their eleventh studio album, Pacific Daydream, will be coming out on October 27.

The band also shared a video for a new song called “Mexican Fender,” which is par for the course relative to the straightforward rock singles they’ve put out with their past few albums. It’s a pretty timeless sound that they’re continually able to pull off successfully, so why stop? The video is a bit kooky, featuring a seagull trying to seduce a one-piece-wearing woman on the beach:

And here’s the Pacific Daydream album art:

According to a press release, the band was originally planning to follow up The White Album with a record called The Black Album, but they felt that the songs they were working on “felt more like reveries from a beach at the end of the world,” so Cuomo said they changed the name to one inspired by this Chinese proverb:

“Once upon a time, I, Chuang Chou, dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, to all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware that I was Chou. Soon I awaked, and there I was, veritably myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man.”
