Wear a Pendant Featuring J.R.R. Tolkien’s Handwriting

Bilbo Baggins didn’t want any adventures, but he went on a grand one anyway. It changed his view of the world, and adventures can have the same effect on you – no dragon fighting required. You can channel inspiration and courage to step out your front door from J.R.R. Tolkien with this pendant featuring his handwriting.

Snake and Fawn can turn any handwriting into a 3D printable file, and they’ve used a 1956 letter from Tolkien as the source for their “adventure” pendant. The letter is to BBC’s Terence Tiller; he produced the first BBC radio adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. This note from Tolkien grants Tiller permission to move forward, and the author also offers his sympathies in turning the epic into a proper narrative. He says, “You will have to concentrate on the adventures of Frodo.”

Later letters from Tolkien revealed he thought “poorly of the broadcast adaptations.” Ah, well.

Anyway, after Snake and Fawn use their jewelry making software to create the pendant design, they print it on a 3D wax printer. They then cast the words and brush and hand polish the pendants. You can choose from a variety of materials for the pendant when you order including steel, nylon, silver, and gold. Prices range from $15 – $350, and you can place custom orders for different words from Tolkien’s letters.

If words from Tolkien aren’t quite what you’re looking for, they also have pendants featuring the handwriting of Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde, and Elvis Presley. They plan to add even more samples to their Muse collection soon.
