As you may have heard by now, muscle car drivin’, D&D playin’, pitch black seein’ Vin Diesel is going to be playing Groot, the seven-and-a-half foot tall living tree, in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Although the actor only has one line in the film – “I am Groot” – he is doing all the motion capture work, and taking it quite seriously, as evidenced by a video he posted to his Facebook page from the set of Fast and Furious 7.
Despite his relative on-screen silence, Diesel isn’t taking the role lightly. “My father taught me there are no small roles, only small actors,â he said. âI have one line in the movie, but that doesnât mean anything. Iâm still going to make it the best thing I possibly can. Even if it means taking Andy Serkis to a whole other level, which is what we wanna do with out motion capture.â Vin’s demeanor in the video and the sentiment behind this have me extra stoked for Gunn’s take on Guardians of the Galaxy. Plus, keep your eyes peeled for one of his Guardians co-stars!

Vin’s last few movies made me forget that he is a real actor, but this has reminded me. Looking forward to the movie.
One of the first comics I ever bought was an old issue of “Where Monsters Dwell” that featured “Groot, the Monster from Planet X!” Nice to see the big block of wood getting the star treatment. Go Vin!
cant wait!
