Deliver Us From Evil, starring Eric Bana, Joel McHale, Olivia Munn, Edgar Ramirez and Sean Harris and due out July 2, is the latest horror film from recently announced Dr. Strange director Scott Derrickson. In the film, New York police officer Ralph Sarchie (Bana), struggling with his own personal issues, begins investigating a series of disturbing and inexplicable crimes. He joins forces with an unconventional priest (RamÃrez), schooled in the rituals of exorcism, to combat the frightening and demonic possessions that are terrorizing their city. Inspired by the book, which details Sarchieâs bone-chilling real-life cases.
In anticipation of next week’s release, take a look at this featurette starring the real Ralph Sarchie, NYPD Sergeant and noted demonologist, whose actual accounts inspired the upcoming movie Deliver Us From Evil.
Pretty creepy! While speaking about the idea of demonic possession at WonderCon earlier this year, star Bana said this: “I was coming from a skeptical place⦠This guy [Scott Derrickson] scared the bejeezus out of me in pre-production. He had access to some materials, along with Ralph Sarchi, the real guy, that they shared with me that I really wish I hadnât seen and clearly had a week and a half of not being able to sleep correctly.â And on the issue of being a âbeliever,â Bana continued, âI just realized, learning a lot from Scott and Ralph, there are varying shades of grey. Itâs not as simple as âSomeoneâs not possessedâ and âSomeoneâs fully possessed.â Thereâs a million steps in between.â
Deliver Us From Evil opens everywhere July 2.
