Though we’ve seen a couple of teasers for Disney’s Tomorrowland, they released the first full trailer for the film today. It gives some more context to the film starring George Clooney (Frank Walker) and Britt Robertson (Casey Newton), but there’s still plenty of mystery. Also, flying bathtubs, fighting robots, and a look at the gleaming streets of Tomorrowland. The trailer lays out Casey’s mission and also shows us that what she’s getting involved in is not without danger.

I admit that I wasn’t curious about the film based on the initial teasers, but now? I’m intrigued. And not just because you can see Disney’s Space Mountain in the film’s poster and in the trailer. The idea of a story centering on an intrepid teen who can save the day/world isn’t exactly anything new, but given the setting, I feel optimistic about seeing the familiar plot in a different light. The sci-fi and fantastical elements of the world are something I want to see more of — but when I see the film. I don’t need to learn more from trailers. Plus, Clooney and Hugh Laurie (David Nix)? Come on.

Before the release of the trailer, director Brad Bird and producer Damon Lindelof answered some fan questions in a live Q&A on Facebook. Here are some of the highlights:

Nick Astrinakis: I love movies about secret & hard to reach powerful MacGuffins & this is fascinating in that Tomorrowland is uncovering long hidden Disney secrets & MacGuffins. Is there a special inspiration in finding & then bringing to the screen a level of creative secrets that can’t usually be found on the surface of a produced story that requires extra digging & searching?
Damon Lindelof: One of our inspirations was all the hidden Mickeys in the parks… the idea that the Imagineers themselves want to reward the super fans is something we really plugged into!

Mary Strother: The word “Tomorrowland” always reminds me of the older generation of science fiction, and the technology of the 1950’s. How inspired were you by old science fiction ideas about where humanity would be in the future?
Brad Bird: I was not inspired by old science fiction as much as I was inspired by how the future used to be seen in contrast to how it’s seen today.

Daniel Tripi: Will we see any Disney characters in the movie?
Damon Lindelof: If you look REALLY carefully, you’ll see The White Rabbit from ALICE IN WONDERLAND and THE BIG BAD WOLF from THREE LITTLE PIGS!

Matthew Soberman: What Disney Parks attractions influenced/inspired you when creating this movie?
Damon Lindelof: Brad turned me on to some of the classic Tomorrowland attractions like “Carousel of Progress.” The way the future was viewed from the PAST was really intriguing to us.
