Watch the Latest Trailer for THE BOXTROLLS

Have a fear of trolls? Don’t worry, there’s nothing to be scared of in Laika’s upcoming film The Boxtrolls. The movie is all about a boy named Eggs (voiced by Game of Thrones‘ Isaac Hempstead Wright) finding courage to stand up to a villain who wants to destroy his family, the Boxtrolls. The creatures raised him and, as you might guess from their name, they wear cardboard boxes. They like to hide away from humans inside those boxes. The film is adapted from the book Here Be Monsters! by Alan Snow.

The latest trailer shows us more of the stop motion animated world and characters. The crew at Laika House excels at making this style of film, and The Boxtrolls looks as detailed and beautiful as previous releases from the studio like Coraline and ParaNorman. Aside from what looks to be a charming and plucky story, I can’t stop thinking about all the miniatures that had to be made for each scene.

Just imagine all the different designs necessary to give each Boxtroll his or her own style! Directors Graham Annable and Anthony Stacchi told Yahoo! Movies that each character was a puzzle, and that every Boxtroll has a unique look and abilities. I can’t wait to get to know them and purchase a pile of Boxtroll toys. I’m also looking forward to seeing more of the human leads Eggs and Winnie (voiced by Maleficent’s Elle Fanning).

The Boxtrolls will be in theaters on September 26th. Are you planning to see it? Let us know in the comments.

I actually love this book (and I’m 36, so what?) so I was super-excited when I saw the first trailer for it. There was absolutely no mention of Snows or his book, but I just knew it had to be connected. Yay!
