Watch The Killers Debut a New Track and Cover Interpol

Last night in Windsor, Ontario, The Killers dropped the first hints that new music is forthcoming. Frontman Brandon Flowers, while showered in foggy spotlight, debuted a solo piano track that features all our favorite Killers’ touchstones: anthemic piano chords, Flowers’ distinct vocals, and melancholy lyrics.

“Have all the songs been written? / I just need one more to get through to you. I can’t take back what I’ve done wrong / I just need one more song.”

The apologetic ballad is short, clocking in at just less than two minutes. Time will tell if the yet-unnamed track—going out on a limb and guessing it’s called “One More Song”—will herald a new full-length. The Las Vegas band’s last new LP was 2012’s Battle Born. Direct Hits, The Killers’ greatest hits album, was later released in 2013. Check out below the fan-filmed footage via Can It Be the Way It Was on Tumblr.

As Spin reports, The Killers also covered a song by one of their biggest inspirations last night. “There were a couple of bands that really sort of lit a fire under us when we were first starting,” Flowers told the crowd, “and one of those bands was Interpol.” Flowers and Co. then launched into “Obstacle 1,” a track from Interpol’s 2002 record, Turn on the Bright Lights, turning in a vitalizing rendition of the New York band’s classic. Hopefully we get more new Killers music in the coming months. Until then, let us know what you think of this new track and cover in the comments below.
