Last night in Windsor, Ontario, The Killers dropped the first hints that new music is forthcoming. Frontman Brandon Flowers, while showered in foggy spotlight, debuted a solo piano track that features all our favorite Killersâ touchstones: anthemic piano chords, Flowersâ distinct vocals, and melancholy lyrics.
âHave all the songs been written? / I just need one more to get through to you. I canât take back what Iâve done wrong / I just need one more song.â
The apologetic ballad is short, clocking in at just less than two minutes. Time will tell if the yet-unnamed trackâgoing out on a limb and guessing itâs called âOne More Songââwill herald a new full-length. The Las Vegas bandâs last new LP was 2012âs Battle Born. Direct Hits, The Killersâ greatest hits album, was later released in 2013. Check out below the fan-filmed footage via Can It Be the Way It Was on Tumblr.
As Spin reports, The Killers also covered a song by one of their biggest inspirations last night. “There were a couple of bands that really sort of lit a fire under us when we were first starting,â Flowers told the crowd, âand one of those bands was Interpol.” Flowers and Co. then launched into âObstacle 1,â a track from Interpolâs 2002 record, Turn on the Bright Lights, turning in a vitalizing rendition of the New York band’s classic.
