It doesn’t premiere on television until May 11th, but you can watch the first episode of Showtime’s new horror mashup series Penny Dreadful right now. Set in Victorian England, the series sets horror literature of the period in the same universe, meaning Dracula, Frankenstein, The Picture of Dorian Gray and others are all up for grabs. Also because they’re public domain? Most likely.

The pilot finds Josh Hartnett’s Ethan Chandler, a Wild West huckster making money abroad, being hired as the muscle and gun for Eva Green’s Vanessa Ives, a spiritualist. The great Timothy Dalton is also on hand as Sir Malcolm Murray, the father of the character Mina Murray from Bram Stoker’s Dracula, who is desperately trying to find what happened to her. The show mixes 1800s science with Gothic Horror and the expected amount of pay-cable nudity and gore, and has us very intrigued to see what follows.
