Watch the Final DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Trailer Now

If you’ve been going bananas (sorry folks, it’s just too easy) waiting for the July 11th release of 20th Century Fox’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, we’ve got just the thing to ease your pain — or worsen it. The studio has just unveiled the Matt Reeves-directed film’s final trailer and it’s stuffed full of all the operatic drama and man-versus-monkey action we’ve come to expect from the venerable post-apocalyptic science-fiction film franchise. Put your stinking paws (or eyes) on it now, you damn dirty humans!

Yup, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes looks more impressive with each new shot… A couple months back, I attended a screening of some advance footage on the Fox lot here in LA. Star Andy Serkis was on hand and referred to the Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel as the most ambitious motion-capture movie of all time. And it looks like he wasn’t boasting. The buzz on this thing is that Reeves has gone all out — even filming motion-capture scenes on location in the California redwood forest in the rain. That’s the kind of go-for-broke gutsiness that just isn’t demonstrated enough these days. The kind that could wind up making Dawn of the Planet of the Apes the Apocalypse Now of twenty-first century sci-fi cinema. We’ll know in July.
