Say what you want about Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck’s American Horror Story anthology series, but every season they have the best and absolute creepiest opening credits of any show, pretty much ever. In fact, the opening credits for this series are always so excellently executed that I never fast forward through them. They are also so well done that frankly, the imagery and scares in the actual show often have a hard time living up to anything seen in the credits. And judging from the newly released opening credits for American Horry Story: Hotel, this season is no different.
This season of American Horror Story will center on the Hotel Cortez and its mysterious owner known as “The Countess,” played by series newcomer and pop icon Lady Gaga. The Countess is some kind of vampiric creature, although series creator Ryan Murphy says she’s definitely not a vampire in the traditional “capes and fangs” kind of way.
Also joining Gaga at the mysterious hotel are returning series veterans Angela Bassett, Sara Paulson, Kathy Bates, Lily Rabe, Wes Bentley, Chloe Sevigny, Finn Wittrock, Evan Peters, Max Greenfield, and Denis OâHare. Actor Cheyenne Jackson, who previously worked with series creator Ryan Murphy on his show Glee, also joins the cast this year. Not returning this year is Jessica Lange, the star of seasons one through four, although a cameo always remains a possibility (I know this fanboy is keeping his fingers crossed).
You can watch the full opening credits sequence above, and get yourself psyched for this yearâs creepy and no doubt over-the-top new season. American Horror Story: Hotel premieres Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
