With The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in theaters now and Benedict Cumberbatch making waves for his sultry verbal interpretation of the poetry of R. Kelly, it was only a matter of time until the cast of the The Hobbit would try to get in on the fun. Well, today IGN delivered with a video of them performing a dramatic reading of Leonard Nimoy’s classic song, “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins.” You remember the words, right?
And here’s the original for comparison. Which is better? You decide.
I don’t know about you guys, but that was pretty Hobbitchin’, if I do say so myself. Yeah, you’re right. I’ll see myself out. In the meantime, let us know what you think in the comments below.

Yeesh! Evangeline’s approach was terrible. 100% agree it should have been 100% Cumberbatch. Or maybe 90% Cumberbatch and 10% Freeman. That would have been okay too.
Wow! Just wow. My favorite was the original video. I’ve never seen this and I have to say that my life is somehow more complete now. lol
meh.
God, will the 70’s never die? That’s the 1970’s for all you Gen Y kiddies out there.
Other than the remake with the movie cast, the only other good version was in the Audi commercial with Nimoy and Quinto where Nimoy is singing it to himself as he drives.
Kill the 70’s with fire!!!
Seriously, the full Cumberbatch bit needs to be released…perhaps on the extended edition DVD as an Easter Egg….
Now, I want to see them do an actual re-enactment of the original. Because you know it’d be hilarious.
And now I’m humming the original xD
My exact thoughts have already been expressed by the first two commenters.
I agree. There was not enough Cumberbatch in this. Jus sayin.
Needed to be 100% Cumberbatch
