Watch Ryan Adams and Taylor Swift Talk Dreams, Songwriting, and Inspiration

Ryan Adams and Taylor Swift have done plenty of geeking out over each other during the past few months: Adams covered Swift’s 1989 in its entirety, flooring the singer enough so that she tweeted about the album, “Ryan’s music helped shape my songwriting. This is surreal and dreamlike.” The two recently had the opportunity to spread the love in person, as Adams conducted an interview with Swift for GQ (given that she’s on the cover of the upcoming November issue). Check out the video above, in which—among other things—Swift asks Siri about whale habitats.

Swift offered her interpretation of Adams’ 1989 covers album, comparing it to actors experimenting with varying intonations: “You know when actors say a line, they say a sentence, but they say it with different emphasis on different words and they completely change it? That’s what you did with my album. If you take a song like ‘All You Had To Do Was Stay’, my version of it was like, ‘All you had to do was stay, sorry about it, I don’t miss you, and now you’re back.’ Yours is like, ‘All you had to do was stay. You broke my heart. That’s all you had to do.'”

They also discussed the writing cycles for their albums and established that the two are very much of their respective eras of origin: Adams keeps lyrics and other pertinent information in an (unintentionally) album-specific notebook, while Swift fills a text document in her phone with random epiphanies as they come to her throughout the day.

Now that this has happened, let us know in the comments if you think there are no more way for Adams and Swift to show how much they love each other. Maybe Swift will bust out some Adams covers soon?
