Looking to get more Jerry Seinfeld in your life? Or at least a blue puppet version of him? Youâre in luck!
Pete Holmes, who recently celebrated the 300th episode of his You Made It Weird podcast, is starring in a new Youtube series called New Material Seinfeld. Holmes plays himself and acts as an audience for a Jerry Seinfeld puppet that looks like it was borrowed from the set of Crank Yankers. Fellow comedian Joe DeRosa voices the blue-felted marionette.
“Why do they call them windshields?â poses DeRosa in the first episode, doing his best Seinfeld impression. âWhen Iâm driving 75 MPH, wind is not my biggest concern. Call it a loogie shield. How âbout a miscellaneous auto parts flying at you at 90 MPH shield? You never see a guy with bandages on his head and you say, âHey, what the hell happened to you?â and he says, âWind!â I mean thatâs funny, right? Thatâs a bit, that could be something.â
âYeah, you should try it. Itâs fine,â responds Holmes. New Material Seinfeld then launches into a bit on fines, emulating the prosaic approach to comedy that makes Seinfeldâs style so distinct. Streets, food courts, leaves, and dogs are all amongst the everyday subjects that the puppet uses for his material, usually finishing the bits by asking Holmes if that was âsomething.â NMS doesnât actually want Holmesâ help, though. When the comedian offers a suggestion, the puppet admonishes him: âIf I needed a co-writer, I wouldâve called puppet Larry David!â
The New Material Seinfeld character has also made appearances on You Made It Weird and on the defunct late-night talk-show, The Pete Holmes Show. There are three episodes in this new series so far. Check them out and let us know what you think in the comments.
