Watch Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Screen Test

It’s really not all that crazy to say Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was a major turning point in the careers of Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista. For Pratt, the success of the movie paved the way for his ascension to leading man status in Hollywood. And for Bautista, Guardians of the Galaxy allowed him to be funny and badass at the same time, which helped him land bigger roles including his villainous turn in Spectre.

Ahead of next week’s Amazon exclusive Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Two Collection—an unboxing of which can be viewed here—Marvel released a never-before-seen screen test from Guardians of the Galaxy featuring Pratt and Bautista performing one of the pivotal scenes from an early part of the film. Taking place at the intergalactic prison known as the Kyln, Star-Lord (Pratt) attempts to convince Drax the Destroyer (Bautista) to spare Gamora (Zoe Saldana) in order to use her as bait for Ronan the Accuser. Check it out:

The Drax body makeup worn by Bautista in this screen test is less ornate than the look that director James Gunn eventually used in the finished film. And the scene itself also has a few minor differences from the one that made it to the big screen. For starters, the tone is less comedic than the finished version, and Drax is a little too quick to warm up to Star-Lord. Drax’s response to Star-Lord’s Aaskvarian question was also changed, but it appears that Pratt and Bautista may have been ad-libbing by the end of the screen test.

For comparison’s sake, here’s the final version of the scene from Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Two Collection blu-ray set will be released on Tuesday, December 8, only from Amazon.
