Watch Batman’s Evolution Through Film and Television in New Video

This week, Batman returns to movie theaters in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This will be the Dark Knight’s 11th time starring in a live-action feature film, which isn’t counting his many appearances in television shows, animated series, and direct-to-video animation.

Bill Finger and Bob Kane’s signature creation has been one of the most popular superheroes since his debut in 1939. There have been countless Batman imitators, but only the original continues to resonate with fans across the world to such a degree. To mark the occasion of Batman’s newest film, Burger Fiction has put together a supercut of Batman’s evolution starting from the first Batman serial in 1943 to Batman v Superman and the animated adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns.

By the admission of this video’s creators, the supercut isn’t a comprehensive look at every incarnation of Batman, but it does illustrate several aspects of the character. For example, the Batman serial is still very recognizably the Batman we know and love even though it was created only four years after his debut.

This video completely skips the Batman TV series from the ‘60s, but Adam West’s Batman is still represented in an unintentionally hilarious clip from the Batman movie that came out in 1966. Every Batman film after 1989 was also included, including the still terrible Batman and Robin. There’s also a heavy diet of clips from the various incarnations of Batman: The Animated Series by Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Alan Burnett, which is widely hailed as one of the greatest versions of Batman.

What did you think about the Evolution of Batman video? And which adaptation of Batman is your favorite? Answer the Bat-signal and share your thoughts in the comment section below!
