The Muppet Show is one of those series that crawls into your heart and never leaves. If I could put a face on nostalgia, it might be Kermit the Frog. We’re fans of the gang and their jokes and skits. You probably already realize the hours of work and high energy it took to make each episode of the series, but an old documentary may give you a greater appreciation for what happened behind the curtains.
Of Muppets & Men: The Making of the Muppet Show originally aired on television in 1981 and has recently appeared on YouTube. It was produced during the fifth season of The Muppet Show, and the almost hour long special takes an in-depth look at the world underneath the muppets. Voicing them, making them, operating them – without the dedicated cast and crew, Kermit would just be a handsome green toy.
The footage is slightly dated, but that doesn’t take away from the quality of the information. For this Muppets fan, it’s fascinating to watch bits such as Frank Oz operating Miss Piggy while she goes on a date with Roger Moore. And besides Oz, the documentary features appearances by Jim Henson, Dave Goelz, Louise Gold, Jerry Juhl, David Odell, and many more.

Thank you for putting this up. The Muppet Show was one of my greatest inspirations as a cartoonist growing up. The craft may be different, but the creativity, showmanship, and fun it takes to bring fictional characters to life – and believed as real individuals – are very similar. Much appreciate for letting us know the video is still around:)
