Watch a 1,300-Pound Pumpkin Fall on a Car

Autumn is a wonderful time of year for so many reasons. Our minds drift away from the annoyance of hot and humid days into the comfort of sweatshirt weather, trees show their glorious colors as chlorophyll production begins to fade, and some enterprising farmers decide to really put the “squash” in… well… you pretty much know where we’re going with this.

That right there is a Nissan Maxima getting absolutely decimated by a 1,300-pound pumpkin. This car-crushing cucurbita was brought to our attention via a recent post on Laughing Squid and was part of a charity event in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada. Here’s a look at the orange beast before the big gravity-aided fight.

The event, which benefitted the Saskatoon Firefighters Pediatric Fund, was beautiful in its simplicity. Step 1: Drop large pumpkins from a crane. Step 2: repeat. Optional Step 3: See what a really big one does to an unsuspecting car. The resulting pumpkin-guts mess is exactly what everyone would expect and the event raised more than $9000 for the charity.

As far as we’re concerned, raising money for charity by squashing squash is the best way to celebrate the season. Ok, sure, there’s some other uses for them but smashing them is definitely the most satisfying. Take THAT, pumpkin-spiced everything!

What would you smash with a 1,300 pound pumpkin? Are farms near you planning similar events?
