Warner Bros In Talks With Mojang For Potential MINECRAFT Movie

Markus Persson, the creator of Minecraft known by many as “Notch,” has announced that discussions are taking place with Warner Bros. to bring Minecraft to the big screen. The news grew a head of its own after Persson, more or less, confirmed the negotiations by acknowledging attempts to leak them, via twitter:

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. just acquired the rights to Minecraft from Mojang and that some big names have already expressed interest in working on the project. Roy Lee, who recently produced the smash hit The LEGO Movie, is said to be taking the helm on production alongside Jill Messick, who is best known for her work on the movie Mean Girls.

This is rather big news, when coupling the huge box office success that The LEGO Movie has been ($279,547,966 worldwide gross), with the huge user base that Minecraft currently boasts (100 million users spread across all platforms). Do you think a Minecraft movie has the potential to blow up as big as The LEGO Movie? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
