There are a lot of indie games to look forward to for the Nintendo Switch, but you don’t have to wait a moment longer for a colorful adventure; you can start one right now. Crafted by a tiny team, Wandersong is a game full of wonder, whimsy, and a little bit of snark, in which a sweetly crooning bard is the hero. You read that right: The bard is in charge.
In Wandersong, the world is ending. But one brave little bard is on a quest to stop it by putting together the pieces of a legendary song that will save the planet from its terrible fate. Along the way he’ll meet new friends, monsters who might actually be new friends, bored townspeople who need a little music in their lives, and many more colorful characters.
The game is brimming with personality. From wry one-liners to the bard’s gloriously over-the-top facial expressions, Wandersong’s heart and humor shine through in every interaction.
But it’s the musicality and game mechanics that set Wandersong above the rest. Rather than fighting with a sword, the bard uses his voice to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles on his journey to save the world. There are some innovative platformer elements in the game that also use the bard’s singing to reach high places or jump across gaping chasms.
The bard also sings to connect with new characters and even with the “bad” guys (who don’t always turn out to be so bad). Match the notes in Simon Says-type minigames that get both your fingers and your toes tapping.
Wandersong is out today on Nintendo Switch and PC/Mac at a retail price of $19.99. If you could use a little colorful fun as the days turn cool and grey, bring home this little bard to brighten up your mood.
