Vin Diesel Reveals Plans For RIDDICK 4 and TV Spinoff

Vin Diesel may be busy plotting the expansion of the Fast and the Furious franchise, but he hasn’t given up on continuing the Chronicles of Riddick either. Far from it, in fact. On Friday, Diesel revealed the latest plans for the Riddick franchise in a post on Instagram.

“Last night our company had a party to launch our TV division,” wrote Diesel. “MERC CITY is a show that will follow the Mercs and Bounty Hunters of the Riddick Universe. Next Month, [David Twohy] begins writing the next Chapter in the Chronicles of Riddick… FURIA.”

Twohy and Diesel have been collaborating on the Chronicles of Riddick since Pitch Black in 2000, when Diesel made his first appearance as Richard B. Riddick, a notorious criminal who found himself trapped on a planet alongside the crew and passengers of a transport ship on a planet overflowing with dangerous nocturnal creatures. Pitch Black became a cult hit, and led to The Chronicles of Riddick in 2004, which had a much bigger budget and a disappointing response at the box office. But once again, The Chronicles of Riddick gained a cult audience and a third movie, Riddick, was released in 2013.

Outside of the live-action Riddick movies, Twohy provided the story for the animated film, The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury, which featured Diesel as the voice of Riddick. Diesel also reprised his role in two acclaimed video games: The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.

The Riddick franchise is clearly a passion project for Diesel, and he seems determined to keep it going. The potential TV series, Merc City actually sounds like an ideal way to flesh out the universe that he and Twohy have created. And if Diesel were to guest star on Merc City, that would be a strong selling point for the show.
