VIKINGS Midseason Finale Clip Shows Ivar Waging War on Lagertha (Exclusive)

As the midseason finale of Vikings approaches, a civil war is brewing that pits the sons of Ragnar against each other. Ivar the Boneless (Alex Hogh) and Hvitserk (Marco Ilso) are preparing for their final assault on the army of Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), which includes their brothers Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) and Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith). Ivar’s need to avenge his mother’s murder will not be satisfied until Lagertha is dead. With King Harald (Peter Franzen) at his side and Rollo’s (Clive Standen) promised forces on their way, victory could be within his grasp. Before marching into war himself though, this exclusive clip shows a major step forward for the crippled Ivar as he sheds his crutch once and for all.

Swapping out the horse-drawn carriage that has taken him into battle countless times for leg braces that allow him to be on his feet during the war, Ivar motivates his army before taking the battlefield. “Are we afraid of death? No! We do not intend to die in our beds as old men,” he screams as the war unfolds behind him. “Victory is all the better when it is hard won. Valhalla awaits us! Forward, my brothers! Forward!”

It’s in the quiet moment that follows that Ivar remembers his true motivation. “I don’t want to forget,” he says quietly as an image of Lagertha in her war paint is shown. “I don’t want to forget why I’m really going into battle this day.” Whether his combined forces are enough to stand up to the army Lagertha has gathered remains to be seen. With a fight this massive though, the casualties will surely be many.

Vikings airs Wednesdays at 9:00 p.m. on History. Do you side with Ivar or Lagertha in this war? Sound off with your thoughts and allegiances in the comments below.
