Video Premiere: Try Your Luck on a Dating Show in Kopecky’s “Quarterback” Video

Kopecky Family Band took the music world by storm with their 2012 debut Kids Raising Kids. Their ineffable harmonies seem to come naturally, and that’s an act that, as any musician can attest to, is never as easy as it seems. Now the Nashville six-piece are returning with Drug for the Modern Age and a succinct new name: Kopecky. single “Quarterback” is the best introduction to their new material. The three-minute indie pop hit jams crunchy guitars, whistle-like keys, and a hell of a subtly groovy bassline into one song, all of which hinges on the type of chorus that will be dancing in your brain for days. It’s like the hard-hitting drums of Sleigh Bells combined with a girl-next-door sweetness that hits your head and your heart.

If the song’s title puts football imagery in your head, grab a broom and sweep it out. The song’s music video is miles more creative than that. It takes you back in time to the ’60s for plenty of flower power love on an old school dating game show called Totally Single. Each of the contestants has their pros. Watch as the three suitors try their hand at the Q+A session, a dance-off, and more to woo the girl. Who does their singer choose? You’ll have to watch and find out. Vocalist and guitarist Gabe Simon recently said the song was a rumination on an age-old thought: “How far would you go to impress a stranger, knowing that just for a little bit, you can be anyone you want to be?” On a dating show, you can construct any identity you please — hence the wildly entertaining footage. See if you can spot each band member’s cameo in the video, too.

As much as we love hearing the song paired with the video, hearing it live is even better. Catch Kopecky on tour when they depart this month, or pre-order Drug for the Modern Age before it drops on May 19 right here. The full list of dates are available on their website.
