VICELAND Announces TOONAMI-Like Block of Late-Night Anime

According to a recent post on Anime News Network, Viceland is dipping their televised toes into the realm of anime having secured a block of late-night anime programming that they’ll begin broadcasting in July of this year. Currently, there’s no word on what the name of the Toonami-like block will be but the line-up will initially consist of Cowboy Bebop, Tokyo Ghoul, Tokyo Ghoul √A, Eureka Seven and Samurai Champloo.

When it comes to starting line-ups, we have to hand it to Viceland for picking a mixture of beloved classics and a few that don’t normally get the love they deserve. Our very own Dan Casey let his anime fandom flag fly a bit back in 2015 gushing about Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul √A. Plus, it’s hard not to love any channel that’ll air Cowboy Bebop (which is going live-action!). It’s the anime equivalent of The Shawshank Redemption in the way that–no matter how many times you’ve seen it–you’ll sit down and watch it if it’s on.

The Viceland channel has been going strong ever since it launched back in February of 2016 with its unique programming aimed at millennials. So far, their line-up has primarily consisted of documentary style programs similar to their Vice program on HBO and a number of reality/lifestyle travel shows akin to those popularized by the likes of Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern.

What do you think of Viceland’s move to bring anime to the masses? What shows would you want to see added to their line-up? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
