2018 is shaping up to be a big year for Venom. Sony is giving Venom a feature film starring Tom Hardy, and Marvel is giving him the entire freakin’ universe. This April, Venom will be at the forefront of Venomized, a five-issue event series that will be released weekly. And this time, Marvel’s heroes will be under attack from two fronts.
Via ComicBook.com, Marvel has revealed that Cullen Bunn and artist Iban Coello will be the creative team of Venomized, which will wrap up the storyline that Bunn began in last year’s Venomverse crossover. That series introduced the Poisons, an alien species that preys upon the Venom symbiotes and their hosts before forcibly merging with them. While Venom and his allies managed to temporarily defeat their enemies in an alternate universe, the Poisons will be making their way to the main Marvel universe for this story.
Marvel may have also given away the outcome of the upcoming “Poison X” crossover between Venom and the X-Men: Blue team, as the advance solicitation suggests that both Venom and the X-Men will go missing in the aftermath of that storyline. In their absence, Earth will be defenseless when the Poisons arrive with a plan to infect the heroes and villains with symbiotes before taking over their bodies.
There’s one other major detail in today’s announcement. The Poisons have a new leader: an alternate universe version of Thanos, who has been joined with a Poison empowered symbiote. And according to Marvel, this Thanos won’t be the only supervillain who fights alongside the Poisons.
Venomized #1 will be released on Wednesday, April, 4.
