USA’s PSYCH To Conclude After This Season

When it comes to television, there are few programs as consistently entertaining as USA’s Psych. Shawn Spencer is an amazing character that over the last eight years has become extremely complex – especially around season five when the truth behind his wacky behavior was revealed (in the episode that sees his mother kidnapped, he reveals his cut loose approach to serious situations is what allows him to access his powers of observation). But sadly, it seems the time of Shawn and his partner in crime, Gus, is coming to an end.

In a press release sent out this morning, USA has revealed the series will conclude following the finale of the current season on March 26th, and will be immediately followed by the “PSYCH After Show.” “PSYCH has made an indelible imprint on the television landscape, with a unique brand of comedy,” said Chris McCumber, President of USA Network. “The final season celebrates the iconic characters that have made this show so beloved, and will be an exclamation point on the series’ incredible run.  And while the series will wrap in March somehow I don’t believe we’ve heard the last of Shawn and Gus.” On the after show, the network added “The ‘PSYCH After Show’ is an interactive special featuring the stars and creator of the long-running series.  Produced by Wilshire Studios, the after show will celebrate PSYCH’s eight seasons with favorite clips, audience Q&A and never-before-seen footage.”

As many Psych-Os will be upon hearing this news, the announcement is bittersweet. With many of the supporting cast continuing to pick up roles in the past few weeks and a shortened episode order for the current season, the writing was fairly on the wall for this news to come, but it doesn’t make it sting any less. Psych is one of the best things USA has done in the last 10 years, and unlike Burn Notice, which ultimately fizzled out in the end, Psych has remained of the highest quality, and was always willing to push the limits of what it could do – I mean, did you guys see the musical episode? Genius.

The show’s stars, James Roday and Dule Hill, have recorded a special message for fans on the show’s Facebook page too.

Psych is a show that will truly be missed, but it’s nice to see USA will be giving it the respect it deserves in the end. And who knows, maybe this won’t be the last we see of Shawn and Gus. Psych movie anyone?

I’m gonna go cuddle with a pineapple now.

I love when shawn said are you talking about my pilots license it in the ceasea or my license to kill it been revoked problems at the kasantain border I would tell you the details but I would have to kill you which I can’t do because my license to kill has been revoked. That was the funniest thing I have ever heard

  2. Amy says:

It is a character show, so I love them all, but 2 in recent memory are the musical and ‘Clue’. Now where is that damned pineapple!
    Pineapple!
    PINEAPPLE!

  3. Derek Wheeler says:

Sometimes people will gush about shows that have me wondering, “I hate that show what are they getting that I am missing” and then other shows like Psych they prove to me that I am not stupid it’s just my taste.

  4. Jennifer Luchsinger says:

I *adore* this show, have watched EVERY episode since the pilot, and seen EVERY SDCC panel. The incredible chemistry in this cast is unrivaled! I feel incredibly blessed to have shared in so much laughter at the hands of the HUGE talents of this cast and will miss them desperately. Thank you to the marvelous cast and crew for the love and laughter over the years! I have to go watch the musical now (again and again) and memorize all the words…

  5. GuanoLad says:

We all knew it was coming, but it’s still sad to see it happen. One of the consistently great shows on TV.

As long as I can get a complete series DVD set with all the extras they can possibly jam in (I can’t find any copies with the commentaries anymore).

  6. The 2.5th Doctor says:

Also, favorite episode is the Season 3 Finale.

  7. The 2.5th Doctor says:

8 Years. Damn. I’ve watched this show since the Pilot. Honestly, I can say that although it has dipped in quality with Season 8, I have had a really great time.

I’ll miss this show so much. But I’ll always remember it.

    You Know?

  8. April says:

Psych has been one of the consistently quality shows on TV since its first episode. Shawn and Gus were great, but so were the supporting characters. It would not have been as interesting and funny without Lassiter, Juliette, Henry, the Chief and a host of wonderful guest stars. I have enjoyed sharing this show with my kids & friends. I will go cry in my pineapple upsidedown cake now.

  9. Colin says:

I have been loyal to the show for the last five years and have re-watched the series several times over. I will miss the show and its unique style and for never taking itself to serious. Some of my favorite moments have been with the character Pierre Despereaux, played by Cary Elwes. I also enjoyed their “Clue” episode, paying homage to the film Clue with many of its cast members guest starring. I am glad it was allowed to go for so long as so many great shows are not given the chace.

  10. RetroRosie says:

Aw, go figure. I had just sat down to watch my DVR’d episode of “Someone’s Got a Woody” when I saw this in my FB feed. Is that perfect timing or horrible timing? Either way, I’m sad.

  11. Jason Felts says:

I have loved every season, but still the funniest thing I’ve ever scene is from the first season. In the Halloween episode, “Scary Sherry,” when Shawn and Gus run out of the sorority house and try to run away in the Blueberry… every time I watch that, without fail, I laugh out loud…
