USA Developing Alien Drama From Carlton Cuse

Despite having just completed the latest season of Bates Motel and about to premiere FX’s The Strain along with Guillermo Del Toro, Lost alum Carlton Cuse is already hard at work on his latest project, this time for USA.

The new series, Colony, sets itself in a futuristic Los Angeles that “exists in a state of occupation. Some collaborate with the alien authorities and benefit from the new order, while others rebel and suffer the consequences. The series is a naturalistic drama about a family torn by those opposing forces, making difficult choices as they balance keeping their family together with the struggle of the human race.” The series will be a co-production between Legendary Television and Universe Cable Productions, the same company behind popular sci-fi series including Defiance, Warehouse 13 and Alphas. Cuse will write and produce the series along with Ryan Condal (Hercules).

An ensemble, post-apocalyptic, sci-fi series from the co-showrunner of Lost? Sounds like a good bet to us. Bates Motel (already renewed for a third season) has proven to be a hit with audiences and the man’s upcoming The Strain looks absolutely fantastic – side note: have you seen those creepy teasers FX has been putting out? What the hell kind of series are we about to step into?

It’s hard to believe Cuse isn’t one of the hottest gets in television right now, and this new show seems right up his alley.

Can Cuse pull off an alien invasion drama? Do you think he’s stretching himself too thin with a third series? Sound off in the comments below.
