Though it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the upcoming PS4 exclusive Until Dawn, developer Super Massive Games took to the PlayStation Blog today to announce the game’s official release date, and to drop a brand new trailer featuring a familiar face–which we’ll get to in a minute. According to the post, we’ll be able to get our hands on the survival horror game August 25th, 2015. It looks like those who’ve been anticipating the title won’t have to wait too long.
Just in case you’re out of the loop, Until Dawn is a horror game in which Sam (played by Hayden Panettiere) and several of her buddies spend a night in a log cabin on the anniversary of the death of one of their friends. In true slasher fashion, there just so happens to be a crazed serial killer on the loose, whom they’ll be running from throughout the game. Like the recent title Life is Strange, the butterfly effect is featured, which means every move you make will snowball into a different outcome at the end of the game. According to the developer, your decisions will control who survives the fright fest and who gets slaughtered by the masked menace.
Now, back to the familiar face. Just in case you haven’t guessed already, the mug in the image above as well as the trailer at the top of the page is actor Peter Stomare of The Big Lebowski, Fargo, and Jurassic Park: The Lost World fame. Of the actor, Super Massive Games Executive Producer Pete Samuels stated, “He gave some incredibly powerful performances in the motion capture studio and you can tell from the end result in the game that he had some fun with the character. We couldnât be happier to have him in the games and I canât wait for you to see him in full flow.”
Samuels also revealed that you’ll be able to pre-order the title starting today. Doing so will score you a special bonus scene featuring new couple Matt and Emily, who find out they aren’t alone on the mountain side. I’m sure you can guess what happens next.
