UNFRIENDED Wants To Play ‘Never Have I Ever’

Unfriended, the latest indie horror release from Blumhouse Productions, is a movie unlike anything you’ve seen before. While other movies may have toyed with the idea of a webcam being the central focus of the film, Unfriended takes place, from start to finish, on a character’s desktop. The audience sees what she googles, what she watches on YouTube and what she scans on Facebook and also sits in on Skype sessions with her high school social circle. I had the opportunity to watch the movie earlier this week and have to admit that I was thoroughly entertained. Will Unfriended create the next trend in low-budget horror? That remains to be seen, but what is undeniable is that the movie captures the way the average American teenager talks, thinks and acts, especially online.

To promote the release of the movie which came out on Friday, Unfriended has released a new clip playing the classic teenage party game “Never Have I Ever.” It’s a quick look at what turns out to be a really important part in the movie where secrets are revealed and lives are lost.

Pretty twisted, right? I have to say, adding the internet and cameras to the already challenging time of being a teenager can’t be an easy thing and, when you think about it, is the perfect premise for a horror movie. It’s also worth mentioning that even though we never leave the desktop screen, I never felt like I was watching a typical “found footage” movie.

Have you all seen Unfriended yet? What were your thoughts on the movie? And remember, be cool, y’all: NO SPOILERS!!!

Unfriended is in theaters now!
