Ellen Page Will Play Another Comic Character in THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY on Netflix

Last summer, Gerard Way‘s eclectic superhero comic, The Umbrella Academy, was picked up as a TV series by Netflix. Now, the first actress to enroll in the academy is a graduate of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.

Deadline is reporting that Ellen Page has landed one of the leading roles in The Umbrella Academy. Page previously played Kitty Pryde in two of the X-Men movies, but her part in this series will be much bigger. Page will be portraying Vanya Hargreeves, the only member of her adoptive family without superpowers. However, Vanya is more than she seems, and her destiny is to become the White Violin, a destructive force of nature with powers far beyond those of her family.

As envisioned by Way and his Umbrella Academy artist, Gabriel Bá, Vanya and her six adoptive siblings were taken in by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a scientist of otherworldly origins, who turned the children into a superhero team to save the world. The TV series appears to be adapting the first storyline, “Apocalypse Suite,” which took place primarily in the present with the children as adults and Vanya alienated from her siblings after she wrote a book about her experiences with them.

Way is serving as an executive producer for The Umbrella Academy TV series, which is expected to begin production soon for a 2018 premiere on Netflix.
