With the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon on the horizonâwell, November 18, but forgive us for being eagerâNintendo is ramping up their efforts to make sure these games aren’t ones we forget about. It’s working: With all the buzz Sun and Moon have generated over the past few months, from the new battle footage to the new region of Alola and new legendary Pokémon, it’s been hard to think about anything else.
Now, Nintendo’s back at it again: Not with the white Vans, but with a new Pokémon-themed New Nintendo 3DS XL. Technically, it’s a New Nintendo 3DS LL, because that’s what the console is called in Japan, the only territory where this special edition is currently slated for release. The yellow unit features a sketch of Pikachu (who isn’t even the most popular Pokémon anymoreâsee below for an explanation of this outrage) while the black one features white outline drawings of this generation’s legendaries, Solgaleo and Lunala (similar to the special edition released to coincide with Pokémon X and Y that featured Yveltal and Xerneas).
According to Nintendo’s post announcing the consoles (via Kotaku), these special edition will be released on November 18âthe same date as the new gamesâand will sell for 20,304 yen (about $191). The post also revealed that, much like they did with X and Y, Sun and Moon will be available to buy together as a single bundle, for 10,757 yen (about $101):
That’s all the new Pokémon news for today, so let us know in the comments if you plan on picking up one of these cool new 3DS systems (assuming they eventually make their way stateside).
Yes, it’s true. Pikachu isn’t the most popular Pokémon anymore. But who is?
