Twitch Announces TwitchCon For This September

If you’re bummed out that you’ll once again be missing ComicCon this year, cheer up, because there’s a new con on the way. With the world of live-streaming becoming increasingly relevant in the world of video games, Twitch (also known as Twitch TV), the leading provider of such services, has just announced that they’ll be hosting their inaugural TwitchCon September 25 and 26 of this year.

This announcement, as interesting as it may be, offers very little information on the event other than the date and location. The reveal is more of a “save the date” sort of situation, with more news to come later on in regards to scheduling, where they recommend staying, and of course, how you can get your tickets if interested.

According to the Twitch.Tv blog post, TwitchCon will be a celebration of all things Twitch, inviting not only the broadcasters but also the fans of these channels. The event promises to bring both groups together, creating an atmosphere where the fans can meet the people who entertain them on a daily basis. There will also be events centered around teaching you how to step up your twitch stream, just in case you’re looking into taking advantage of this now booming form of content.

The convention sounds pretty similar to the already successful VidCon which focuses specifically on YouTube content. It’ll be interesting to see if this becomes an organized event we see every year. While not all things on Twitch.Tv are about video games, the site has become a haven for gamers who seem to be the target audience for the event.

With no news on who will be attending the TwitchCon, or when tickets will become available, it seems a bit strange to make this announcement. Hopefully the creation of the con means we’ll be seeing some big name streamers come out to San Francisco for the event. Some interesting numbers provided by Twitch say that 100 million community members watch and talk about video games with more than 1.5 million broadcasters. Skewed or not, those are impressive numbers.
