TWIN PEAKS Gets 1980s-Style Synth Score Tribute Album

David Lynch’s Twin Peaks debuted in 1990…but what if it had debuted about a decade earlier? Various retro synth artists like Who Ha, The Astronaut Arcade and Robert Parker have gone and recreated Angelo Badalamenti‘s iconic Twin Peaks soundtrack in the style of the early ’80s synth scores with The Next Peak, Vol 1.

During the early to mid-1980s snyth scores were most famously used on movies like Blade Runner, which featured an incredible synth score from Vangelis, as well as the original Terminator, John Carpenter‘s soundtrack for Escape from New York, and almost anything from director Michael Mann during that time period. It was the Golden Age of synth scores, and inspired soundtracks for modern movies like Drive.

The Next Peak Vol. 1 is the first of three Twin Peaks themed releases on Retro Promenade, an online label that releases music and art inspired by the ’80s and ’90s nostalgia. Volume 1 is synth-heavy covers and recreations of the original Soundtrack to Twin Peaks, while upcoming volumes will include remixes and tracks inspired by Angelo Badalamenti’s original score. Retro Promenade’s Mike Mendoza says, “We got together out of our supreme love for all things Twin Peaks. Many of us remember growing up with it on as our parents watched or even watched it ourselves, and it has left a mark on us; so we wanted to somehow give that nostalgic emotion back to the world that Twin Peaks gave us first.”

The Next Peak Vol. 1 is now available for download on Bandcamp as a name-your-price album. Retro Promenade is also selling a poster and t-shirt to commemorate this release. Check out a teaser trailer for the album release below:
