Happy Friday, TV lovers! It’s the weekend which means you’re likely to be one of two places: at parties, hob-nobbing it with friends and frenemies looking for conversation starters …or sitting in front of your television, maybe streaming Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work on Netflix or waiting for the new episodes of The Knick and Outlander to come on (all good options, truth be told).
Wherever your weekend wanderings take you, there’s still a heap of small screen happenings that we’re sure you’ll want to read heading into those two days that start with “S.” So take a quick glance and don’t say we never did anything nice for ya:
Wait…What? Werner?: Here’s a thing that is very surprising. Werner Herzog has filmed a guest starring appearance for the upcoming final season of NBC’s Parks and Recreation. And get this? Who’s he playing? “An elderly guy who sells his decrepit house to the young couple who are the leading characters in this, and directly to the camera, I address the audience and I say, ‘You know, I lived in this home for 47 years. And I decided to move out now and sell this because I’m moving to Orlando, Florida, to be close to Disney World.'” Because…of course? Herzog added: “I’ve never seen the show, but I hope they kept some of it.” [Flavorwire]
Speaking of Parks and Rec: I mean it’s not so much personal opinion as it is scientific fact at this point, but these photos of the cast of the NBC comedy hanging out with a Make-A-Wish recipient are proof that they’re the best. THE BEST. Ugh slash aww shucks, you guys: just the nicest, funniest, and greatest these dorks are, huh? [The A.V. Club]
2 Fast 2 True Detective?: Justin Lin is apparently in the lead for the director job that is True Detective season two. IIIIIINTERESTING! [Nerdist]
The Mindy Project Gets Sexy: Finally, the time has come for Danny Castellano and Mindy Lahiri to have awkward, overwrought and hilarious sex on The Mindy Project. Oh and apparently there’s a love triangle involving Adam Pally. Heading into its third season we couldn’t be more excited to see this show’s continued, funny evolution. Plus who doesn’t like to look at that adorable Chris Messina, am I right? [Entertainment Weekly]
A Zombie Home Companion: That The Walking Dead companion/spin-off series is a go at AMC: [Nerdist]
Another Day, Another Arrow Update: This is the show that just keeps on giving, isn’t it? The CW megahit about a superguy who shoots stuff or something (we kid, we kid!) has added another actor to its roster: Austin Butler. He’ll play Chase, a “charismatic DJ” whose “talent and wiles” manage to snag him a romantic admirer in Thea (Willa Holland). What say you, Arrow fans? [The Hollywood Reporter]
Sandy Cohen Gets a New Gig: Peter Gallagher, the man behind The OC‘s most impressive eyebrows, will head to Law & Order: SVU this season, where he’ll reportedly play Deputy Chief William Dodds “a charismatic but tough-as-nails boss who oversees all of the special victims units in the Big Apple.” Which all sounds well and good, but: will there be Chrismukkah? [Variety]
Joss Whedon Art Show: Anyone else want to go because I so want to go to this. [Nerdist]
Everyone You Know Watched The Simpsons on FXX: Well bully for you, FXX. The sorta-salacious-sounding network nabbed a total of 25 million viewers during the Every Simpsons Ever marathon. So now you know why none of your friends returned your calls last week. It’s because they were all glued to The Simpsons. Wait, weren’t you doing the same thing, too? [The Wrap]
So â what do we want from that Walking Dead spin-off, eh? Let’s speculate and get wish list-y in the comments.
