TV-Cap: SUPERGIRL Moving to CW, ABC Cancellations, and More

Hello, all the television news! Networks made a few announcements yesterday (basically all of them) about which shows will return and which are cancelled. I have updates about ABC’s sad decisions in today’s TV-Cap along with some positive news about Supergirl, a Lorelai and Luke photo from Gilmore Girls, an update on more Samurai Jack, and more.

Moving Time. Supergirl has been renewed for a second season! The series won’t be staying on CBS though: Kara and Co. will fly to The CW and join the rest of DC’s comic book slate. I hope this means we’ll get more crossovers! Actor David Harewood (J’onn J’onzz) posted on Twitter that they’ll have 22 episodes for season two and that they’re moving production to Vancouver. Going to High School. Who’s ready to hang out with Archie and the gang in high school? Because The CW has given Riverdale a full series order. I’m pretty sure they’re testing how many comic book inspired series can one network have. [Nerdist]

It’s a Wrap! Netflix’s continuation of the Gilmore Girls has finished production. While this picture of Scott Patterson and Lauren Graham, a.k.a. Luke and Lorelai, isn’t as exciting as a premiere date announcement, it is rather delightful. [TVLine]

Antici…pation. Fox is bringing the Rocky Horror Picture Show to television, and Laverne Cox is playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Yes, the world is a magical place. Entertainment Weekly debuted the first look of her in character. We’ll see her in action when the show airs this fall. [Nerdist, Image: Fox/EW]

Saying Goodbye. ABC cancelled several shows yesterday–so many that you might be wondering what’s left on the network to watch. These are the shows that are no longer coming back: Agent Carter, Galavant, The Muppets, Castle, and Nashville. Ugh. I need more Timothy Omundson singing in my life, guys. And more Peggy. Sigh. A.K.A. Scoop. Our very own Dan Casey talked with Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg all about season two, and we get to share the juicy details with you in the latest Nerdist News. [Nerdist]

Defender, Soap Seller. Chris Miller and Phil Lord, the directors of The LEGO Movie, are bringing a live action animated hybrid comedy to Fox. Son of Zorn, which is an utterly wonderful name, will tell the story of Zorn (voiced by Jason Sudeikis), a once defender of his island nation who now lives in Orange County and sells soap. Entertainment Weekly has a first look at the show, and I’m intrigued. [Entertainment Weekly, Image: Fox]

It’s Happening. In the category of great news being confirmed today, Samurai Jack is truly and really coming back. Genndy Tartakovsky is serving as executive producer on the Adult Swim cartoon. We’ll hopefully get more details about the story and premiere date soon. [Nerdist]

So Much Space. Friday, July 1 marks the return of the second seasons for two Syfy series, Killjoys and Dark Matter. It’s neat to see this much space-centered storytelling on the network, isn’t it? The above promos show brief but exciting looks at what’s ahead.

Krystal War. What happened on Thursday night on TV? Orphan Black got bananas in the best scientific ways; read Alicia’s recap. Then read Sydney’s recap of The 100 as the war against ALIE started.

Which show are you either pouring out a glass for or raising a glass to? I’m happy about Supergirl but bummed about Agent Carter. Share your pain/joy with me in the comments.
