TV-Cap: Sif Returns to AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., BETTER CALL SAUL Performs Big, & More

Today isn’t any old day. It is the day after Spider-Man joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe. What does that have to do with television? Absolutely nothing, but I’m still saying thwip thwip hooray about the exciting news. But, back to the world of TV! Today’s news round-up includes the return of a certain Asgardian to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a new villain for The Flash, Anna Kendrick at the Oscars, and more. Let’s dive in.

No One Wields Dishes Like Peggy. Marvel’s Agent Carter has already given us several enjoyable fight scenes, but this clip from tonight’s episode is already my new favorite. Peggy and Jarvis are cornered in the diner by Strategic Scientific Reserve agents and have to fight their way out with the weapons they have on hand: dishes and trays. There’s one particularly amazing moment in which Jarvis looks so proud of himself that I just want to pat him on the head. Tune into “A Sin to Err” tonight at 9pm ET/PT on ABC.

This One’s For You, Sam Smith. The 2015 Grammy Awards took place Sunday night, and if you’re like me and didn’t watch them, it’s time to catch up. Leslie has you covered with her rundown of the best live performances at the Grammys.

Saul Makes a Splash. Better Call Saul, the Breaking Bad spinoff, made a huge debut on Sunday night. It premiered after The Walking Dead (which also raked in impressive numbers) and attracted 4.4 million viewers aged 18-49 and 4 million adults aged 25-54. It’s reportedly the biggest series premiere in the history of cable television. [IGN]

Are We Going Into the Woods? I just got excited about the 87th Oscars because Anna Kendrick tweeted that she’ll be part of a special performance at the awards ceremony. Show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron describe Kendrick’s upcoming performance as “something special that is sure to be an ‘Only on the Oscars’ moment.” Into the Woods is nominated for three Oscars but none of them are related to the music in the film. Hmm. [Deadline]

Asgardian Amnesia. Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander) is set to return to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Huzzah! However, she’s not quite the same. S.H.I.E.L.D. agents find her without her armor or her short-term memory. Ruh-roh. Sif will appear in the episode following Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s midseason premiere; it should air March 10th. Bug-Eyed Bandit In Central City. The gender of DC Comics’ Bug-Eyed Bandit is getting flipped for The Flash. Emily Kinney (The Walking Dead) will play Brie Larvan in the 18th episode of the season, “All-Star Team-Up.” Yes, that is the episode where Felicity Smoak and Ray Palmer from Arrow pay a visit to Central City. It’s fitting since the Bug-Eyed Bandit is an Atom villain in the comics. TVLine reports Brie is a “narcissistic tech wizard wreaking havoc in Central City.” And yes, she will go toe-to-toe with Felicity.

Skeletons In the Closet. Netflix has released a trailer for their upcoming original series Bloodline. The family drama stars Kyle Chandler, and like any family, the Rayburns have secrets. Those secrets are threatened when the eldest brother and black sheep of the family return home. It’s not Parenthood, but it could help fill the Braverman-shaped hole in your heart. All 13 episodes of the first season drop on March 20th. [Give Me My Remote]

Roll Out – Sort Of. The MythBusters explored the topic of transformative engineering in their most recent episode. It’s not quite Transformers, but you can pretend it is. Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman explored the functionality of a couple of bizarre vehicles. Kyle goes over the takeaways from the episode.

Do you think Anna Kendrick will be performing a tune from Into the Woods that turns into a Pitch Perfect-esque mash-up? We can only hope.
