TV-Cap: River Song Returns to DOCTOR WHO, SUPERNATURAL Season 11 Photos, & More

Today is all about looking ahead to the future and sharing posters, teasers, and promotional material. I can barely keep up with all the tidbits dropping for fall television, but I’ve rounded up a ton of highlights for you. Please enjoy today’s TV-Cap with teasers for American Horror Story: Hotel, photos from the Season 11 premiere of Supernatural, an iZombie promo, and information on the return of River Song to Doctor Who.

Bruises, Blood, Normalcy. When Season 10 of Supernatural ended, everyone was a little worse for wear. The Darkness was arriving, Castiel was forced to attack Crowley, and the Winchesters barely escaped death and Death. Yep. TVLine has the first batch of photos from the Season 11 premiere (it airs October 7), and the good news is that Crowley appears to be alive. But, Castiel is still stuck under Rowena’s spell and there’s a baby. Huh. See the entire gallery of photos right this way.

Makeup Magic. It may surprise you to learn the person in the above photo is Bryan Cranston. I know, right? Makeup wizards have worked wonders to transform Cranston into President Lyndon B. Johnson for HBO’s All the Way. Cranston appeared in the stage production of the play also wearing makeup, but this is on an entirely different level. Wow. [/Film]

Powering Up. The debut of Marvel’s Luke Cage series on Netflix is a bit in the future, but it’s shaping up. Two new cast members have reportedly been added. According to Deadline, Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as Claire Temple—she first played the character in Daredevil and will also appear in Jessica Jones. Theo Rossi has been cast in an unspecified role as a series regular. Any speculation about who Rossi is playing? [Nerdist]

Witnesses, Represent! It’s no secret that Sleepy Hollow is making big changes for Season 3 in order to get back on track. Well, attempt to get back on track. One of those changes? No more Headless Horseman. I think this poster for Season 3 is a jab at that alteration and also puts the spotlight on witnesses Ichabod Crane and Abbie Mills. [Comic Book Movie]

Sucking Out the Blood. NBC is developing a series called Brides, and it’s not focused on the type of brides you might expect. The series from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Greg Berlanti is a “hot gothic soap drama” about the brides of Dracula. It’s a modern take with the brides living in New York City and will focus on the women being empowered and strong. This could go so many ways, but I think there’s room to do it right and make it fun. [Nerdist]

Saving the Day. It’s time to meet the slightly dysfunctional superheroes of Crackle’s upcoming animated series SuperMansion. The heroes that form The League of Freedom are also roommates, and you can imagine the sort of drama that ensues from sharing quarters. A series of posters introduces Titanium Rex, American Ranger (pictured above), Black Saturn, and more with images and mini bios. Check out more character posters at Comic Book Resources.

Weird Bites. Need some wee doses of creepiness to start your Thursday? Look no further than three new teasers for FX’s American Horror Story: Hotel. The videos don’t give away any specifics about the plot—they’re mostly just vignettes to give you an idea of how bizarre and scary the season could be. [/Film]

Mmm, Brains. In my opinion, iZombie is one of the most clever shows on television. I can’t wait for its return on October 6, and this promo for the next season teases how the landscape has changed. What will happen with Blaine? Is Major cured? Will Max Rager kill all the zombies? None of that is answered in the teaser—obviously—but there is plenty of Rose McIver’s Liv eating brains and taking on different personalities. [Nerdist]

So Serious. Keep these two words in mind for Season 4 of Arrow: Aim. Higher. The tagline is featured on the poster for the upcoming season of The CW series, and it’s featured alongside a very intense looking Oliver Queen. Of course, intense is sort of the normal state of being for Oliver Queen so… [TV Fanatic]

High Pitched. For the most part, long title sequences are a thing of the past. I miss opening credits that really sink their teeth in, so I am extremely appreciative of this super-sized cut of the Scream Queens opening credits posted by Ryan Murphy. It’s silly, creepy, and even a little elegant. [Give Me My Remote]

Hello, Sweetie. Well, then. Alex Kingston’s popular River Song will return to Doctor Who this Christmas, and it will be the first time she’s meeting the Peter Capaldi version of her husband. I’m looking forward to seeing how the Twelfth Doctor’s somewhat grumpy personality works with River’s bubbly and no-nonsense approach to life. How and why is she coming back? Watch the latest episode of Nerdist News (embedded above) for our thoughts and read what resident Whovian Kyle had to say on the subject.

How do you feel about River Song’s return, Whovians? Let me know in the comments.
