Genre shows have an advantage that is, oddly enough, also a disadvantage. Death is more of a fluid concept rather than a permanent one. People show up on Supernatural semi-regularly after they die, Arrow has resurrected characters, and the presence of Earth-2 on The Flash means the door is open for everyone to come back—even if it’s in another form. The Son. Colton Haynes will be on your television a couple of times in the first week of February. He’s reprising his role of Roy Harper on Arrow (see, no one really leaves), and he’ll guest star on Fox’s The Grinder. The show stars Rob Lowe, who plays an actor that stars on a show called Grinder. Haynes will play Lowe’s son Mitch in the television series within the television series. I know. That’s not confusing at all. [TVLine]
Changes and More Changes. The second season of The 100 left scars on just about every character. When The CW show returns Thursday with season three, it’ll have been a few months after the Mount Weather tragedy; characters will be coping. I spoke with the cast during a visit to the set this fall, and they previewed the expansions the world has yet to see. Read the report and their comments this way.
A Tragedy. Arrow’s “Blood Debts” didn’t tell us who’s in the grave, but it confirmed a few people are safe. I’m nervous about who it could be, guys. Really nervous. As long as you watched the episode, go rehash it and read Sydney’s recap.
This Can’t End Well. The whole “wibbly wobbly timey wimey” phrase from Doctor Who can be used to explain a handful of things in The Flash, especially if you add a little “alternatey universey” to it. That’s basically the way I’m looking at the return of Eobard Thawne, also known as Reverse-Flash. He should have been erased from the timeline, but he’s coming back and Harry is calling it Eobard’s origin story. I have a bad feeling about this. [TV Fanatic]
Mostly Together. NBC’s upcoming special for James Burrow isn’t a Friends reunion. It’s more like a place where most of the Friends cast will be together in the same place. The exception is Matthew Perry. His schedule prevents him from making the taping, but he’s going to submit a taped greeting. Phew! It’s gonna be okay, everyone. The reunion that’s not a reunion is still happening. It will air on February 21. [Vanity Fair]
Steering to the ’50s. Gremlins director Joe Dante is directing an episode of Legends of Tomorrow, and he gets to tackle a groovy time period. Dante’s episode will take place in the late ’50s. Series executive producer Marc Guggenheim told TVLine, “We didn’t write the episode to take place in the late 1950s because Joe Dante was directing it, but damn if he is not the perfect director to realize that era, especially since we’re doing an Amblin-style version of the late ’50s.” I am so on board. A Regal Rebellion. Princess Leia Organa stopped by Lothal on last night’s Star Wars Rebels, and her arrival caused some trouble. She was there to deliver Alderaanian ships to the cause, but she had to pretend to still be on the Empire’s side. How did it go? Read my recap of “A Princess on Lothal.”
A Different Story. Ryan Murphy of American Horror Story is producing a different sort of tale with American Crime Story. The FX series will premiere on February 2, and the first season is subtitled “The People v. O.J. Simpson.” It stars the likes of Cuba Gooding Jr., John Travolta, and Selma Blair. More of Claire. Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as Claire Temple in Marvel’s Luke Cage, and Mike Colter said she’ll have a sizable role to play. He told IGN, “She’s going to serve a very significant part of the Luke Cage story. Not overwhelmingly so, but you will definitely be satisfied with the amount of screen time you see. I can’t speak to episode count, but you’re definitely going to see her.” I’m thrilled to hear this because she’s a fascinating character. [IGN]
