TV-Cap: ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK Meets RESERVOIR DOGS, Farewell to the LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN

It’s the end of an era. A chapter has closed. Insert more similar statements here. They all come down to this: the Late Show on David Letterman reached the end of its 22-year run last night. Letterman’s contributions to late night television can’t be overstated, and I for one will miss the delivery of the top 10 lists (not necessarily the lists themselves though). In today’s TV-Cap, we say a fond farewell to the Late Show; I also have a hilarious Orange is the New Black and Reservoir Dogs mash-up, and there’s some Flash tidbits too. Enjoy.

Thank You and Good Night. The Late Show with David Letterman came to an end last night after over 20 years on the air. I haven’t watched that kind of late night television regularly in years but back in my high school and college days, Letterman was my host of choice. The week leading up to the final bow has been full of tributes and kind words (read Blake’s take right here) and things like Bill Murray jumping out of cake. Last night was a bit of an extravaganza too but Letterman gives a heartfelt final thank you and goodnight. [Time]

The Multiverse Is Open. The Season 1 finale of The Flash was perhaps the most comic book-y (very technical term!) story I’ve seen on television so far, and it was glorious. It was so much fun but also quite emotional. And by emotional I mean it made many people sob their guts out. There was a lot to take in–just the moments in which Barry entered the Speed Force featured a ton of Easter eggs–so relive the episode with Joseph’s review of “Fast Enough.” And if you want to see one of the big reveals from the Speed Force visions regarding Caitlin Snow, visit Comic Book Resources.

Prepare the Laughs. In case you weren’t aware, America’s Funniest Home Videos is still on the air. It’s on Sunday evenings on ABC before Once Upon a Time. The current host, Tom Bergeron, is stepping down, and one of the coolest cats of them all, Alfonso Ribeiro, is taking over hosting duties. Carlton Banks as an emcee? Yeah, I think he’s got this. What’s in a Color? NBC’s Red Nose Day releases continue to deliver amazing content. This time? It’s the ladies of Litchfield Penitentiary going a little Reservoir Dogs. So, Orange is the New Black meets a Quentin Tarantino film. Perfect. The cast of the Netflix original series reenacts the classic naming scene, and it makes me want a reboot. [Digital Spy]

Planning for Nothing. On June 24, you can do nothing while watching a show about nothing. That’s the date when Hulu will make all of Seinfeld (180 episodes) available to stream. [Variety]

Going Yonkers. It won’t be long before you see Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but you can see him in action before then in HBO’s upcoming miniseries Show Me a Hero. Isaac stars as the mayor of Yonkers in the 1960s–a mayor who has to build low-income housing units in the white neighborhoods of his town. Given the state of civil rights in that time period, you can imagine how well it goes over. The six-part miniseries premieres on August 16 and is based on a nonfiction book of the same name by Lisa Belkin. It was adapted by David Simon and William F. Zorzi, and other stars include Alfred Molina, Winona Ryder, and Jim Belushi. Paul Haggis will direct.

More Memories. You thought we were finished saying goodbye to David Letterman? Nah. Staffers on the show have taken to social media to share memories from their time on the set over the years. There are several photos, like the one above of a ticket for the very first Late Show with David Letterman. Head to TV Insider to see more.

Full Steam Ahead. AMC isn’t wasting any time. They’ve chosen three projects for possible development: Goliath, The Son, and Lodge 49. And by development, I mean they’re taking an interesting approach. They’re not making pilots, they’re setting up writers rooms to get scripts and outlines ready in the hopes of doing full series orders. Deadline reports it’s not a new approach, but it is new to AMC. Now that the Late Show with David Letterman is off the air, what show are you watching? Let me know in the comments.
