TV-Cap: New X-FILES Will Use Original Opening Credits

Halloween isn’t even here yet, so normally I wouldn’t tolerate any talk about Christmas, but when it comes to Sherlock, I’ll let it slide. BBC has released a look at the special that keeps things nice and vague. Keep reading today’s TV-Cap to watch the trailer, to see a promo for the next episode of The Flash, to learn about the opening credits for The X-Files revival, and more.

We All Have a Past. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will return as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson in Sherlock’s upcoming Christmas special, and BBC is giving us a mysterious glimpse in a new trailer. I like how they sort of made this trailer a series of clever quotes and cool images and added a nebulous, threatening tone without going into details. Being surprised is neat, but I do wish they would have mentioned the premiere date. [Nerdist]

The Grumpiest Brains. Season 2 of iZombie picked up the threads from the Season 1 finale and made a whole new blanket. The snappy and fun series added some twists that are sure to keep things interesting in the weeks ahead. And honestly, it’s just lovely to see this cast back in action. Read Blair’s review of “Grumpy Old Liv” and head to the comments to let me know your thoughts on the episode.

A Repeat Invitation. American Horror Story: Hotel premiered Wednesday, and series co-creator Ryan Murphy thinks Lady Gaga is killing it. He’s so pleased with her performance that he already invited her to come back for Season 6. The only thing that would make this tweet better is if he would have included a picture of a note with a “yes” and “no” for her to circle. [Deadline]

Ready for Action. Marvel’s bringing Jessica Jones and Daredevil to the New York Comic Con party this weekend. The former will probably showcase its first actual footage, and maybe the latter will share some Season 2 secrets. If nothing else, we get this cool concept art for the next season by Joe Quesada. It will be available at the convention this weekend. [IGN, Image: Netflix/Marvel]

Two More Rounds. Fox is in a generous mood: They’ve confirmed renewal of Bob’s Burgers for two more seasons. That means Seasons 7 and 8 are done deals–and this news comes when the sixth season only recently kicked off. Here’s to the Belchers! [Nerdist]

Being Hunted. The world is rather anti-Inhuman at the moment on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. People are scared and acting out. That means Inhumans are trying to stay under the radar, and Lincoln, in particular, is feeling the heat as S.H.I.E.L.D’s rival agency tries to track him down. The above clip from next week’s episode shows him on the run. [Comic Book Resources]

A Different STAR Labs. When The Flash returned with its second season on Tuesday, it did so with an emotional bang. We learned about some fallout from the Season 1 finale and about some changes. Zoom is coming! And Jay Garrick is already here! Ahh! Read Joe’s review of “The Man Who Saved Central City.”

Two Flashes! And since we’re talking about Jay Garrick, let’s look ahead to next week’s episode. In “The Flash of Two Worlds,” Jay explains that he’s also known as The Flash. He’s going to help Barry fight a new metahuman, and I’m so excited that I can’t even. [TV Fanatic]

Rebranding. ABC Family is evolving in January 2016. The network that has shows like Pretty Little Liars and Shadowhunters is ditching the family label and going with something more open-ended. They’ll be called Freeform. They’re making the switch to keep the Millennial audience hooked. [Slashfilm]

Staying the Same. The first episode of The X-Files premiered Tuesday night at Mipcom, and at least one tidbit of information has leaked from the screening: the opening credits haven’t changed. Chris Carter said, “We thought about doing some changes to the original credits, but then it seemed like like sacrilege. Those credits were on 202 episodes. They belong on these next six.” I like his reasoning. [Vulture]
