Yeah, it’s Monday again, but you should think of it as the day when we’re just weeks away from new seasons of television! Today’s TV-Cap has trailers for The Vampire Diaries and The Flash to help get you excited, and there’s a look at Hawkman and Hawkgirl in costume for Legends of Tomorrow and a prologue for the upcoming season of Doctor Who.
We Have Wings. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow features several heroes and villains we’ve met before on other comic book series on The CW, but Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) and Hawkgirl (Ciara Renée) are new faces. Actually, Hawkgirl briefly appeared in the season one finale of The Flash, but this is the first time we’re getting a decent look at both of the characters in costume. How awesome do they look? I think the style hits a solid middle ground between the comics and the more subdued tones of the DC ‘verse on television. What do you think of the outfits? Snagging Accolades. The Creative Arts Emmys took place on Saturday, September 19, and series from Game of Thrones to American Horror Story: Freak Show took home awards. The categories call attention to behind-the-scenes efforts and crafts such as title design, music, production design, hairstyling, and more. Mystic Falls Has Changed. When The Vampire Diaries returns for season seven, there will be some big differences: Elena is gone and Mystic Falls is in trouble. Okay, maybe Mystic Falls being threatened isn’t so different. Lily Salvatore’s heretics are in control and taking names, and given the way that the Salvatore brothers are responding to her, she’s a force to be reckoned with. Going Undercover. Epix’s upcoming spy drama Berlin Station has gained some impressive cast additions. Both Richard Armitage and Michelle Forbes have jumped on board. Armitage will play a CIA case officer who goes undercover in Berlin while Forbes will play the no-nonsense administrator — she pretty much rocks in that type of role. The series will premiere on Epix in fall 2016. [TVLine]
Being Honest. Doctor Who returns with brand new episodes on September 19, but you don’t have to wait to start tackling the first mystery of the season. BBC has released a prologue for series nine, and it shows the Twelfth Doctor visiting Karn once again. Huh. Isn’t that interesting? Ohila and the Doctor have a chat in which the High Priestess reads the truth in the Doctor’s words and talks to him about enemies and friends. [Nerdist]
Zooming Into Danger. We’ve seen a glimpse of season two of The Flash, but it’s time for an extended trailer. It shares some of the footage from the earlier tease with Jay Garrick (yep, still not over that) and introduces the threat named Zoom. They’re building him up to be the next big bad, and I’m interested to see how he’ll be worse or scarier than Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawne. This new trailer also gives us a look at Patty Spivot and shows she’s already in the know about metahumans. The Flash speeds back to The CW on October 6. [Nerdist]
Changing Relationships. Sam and Dean Winchester have been through a lot over the years on Supernatural. And using “a lot” is conservative. The brothers have been tested again and again, but their relationship was especially strained in season 10 because of all the Mark of Cain drama. Executive producer Jeremy Carver talked to TVLine about what’s ahead for the brothers and everyone else in season 11, and he mentioned things aren’t necessarily one hundred percent okay. “[Sam and Dean] very, very much have the same agenda, and they’re both confronted at separates times during the beginning of the season with different ways of getting there. It’s figuring out how to deal with that individually and with each other. But they’re very much united in what they ultimately want.” Sometimes I think they have so many issues they could never fully work them out. Another Cersei. The performing arts are alive and well in Westeros, and we’ll see a particular theater troupe in season six of Game of Thrones. Richard E. Grant and Essie Davis will have roles in that theater group, and photos captured from the set show Davis as Queen Cersei. Hmm.
