New York Comic Con took place over the weekend, and the convention brought a ton of television news. Possibly all of it. Marvel and DC shared sizzle reels, casting news, and pilots, there was a premiere for The Walking Dead, and trailers galore. Since there’s so much news, I’m going to break it down over the next couple of days. Check out today’s TV-Cap for round one: an Arrow sizzle reel, a new trailer for Star Wars Rebels, Agent Carter casting updates, and more.
More Mayhem. Rejoice, fans of The Flash and Mark Hamill: The Trickster is coming back! Hamill reprised his role as James Jesse on season one of the series, and he’ll be back in Central City during the second season. Being Hunted. Season two of Star Wars Rebels picks back up on October 14, and the crew of the Ghost has rocky times ahead. Darth Vader knows Ahsoka Tano is alive, and he’s sending new Inquisitors–the Fifth Brother and the Seventh Sister–after her. A trailer for the rest of the season shows the Inquisitors are also on the hunt for Force sensitive children and teases Sabine’s history (house Vizsla!) and a very The Phantom Menace-inspired fight between Ahsoka and the Inquisitors. Hello, Daddy. On the Gotham panel at New York Comic Con, it was revealed that Oswald Cobblepot’s father is coming into the picture in season two. Robin Lord Taylor (Cobblepot) enthusiastically announced Paul Reubens will be stepping into the role. Reubens played the character once before in Batman Returns. I can’t wait to see Reubens and Taylor in scenes together because Taylor was so adorably excited about the announcement.
New Friends. Agent Carter is picking up and moving to Los Angeles for season two, and the change in location means some new faces. One of those faces is particularly intriguing: Ana Jarvis. Ahh! Jarvis’ wife will have a regular part in the upcoming season; she’ll be Peggy’s pal and help her adjust to L.A. Ana will be played by none other than Lotte Verbeek. Other series regular additions include Wynn Everett, Currie Graham, and Reggie Austin. They’ll play Whitney Frost, a.k.a. Madame Masque, Calvin Chadwick, and Jason Wilkes, respectively. [Nerdist]
The Chosen. Remember how MTV has a fantasy series on the schedule? The Shannara Chronicles will debut on January 5, and a trailer released at New York Comic Con gives a nice overview of the story–certainly moreso than the previous teaser. It hints at dark times ahead as the tree that protects the world is dying, and a trio of youths have to go on a quest to save the day. [Comic Book Resources]
Vampire Origin Story. Did you know an Adventure Time spinoff was in the works? Now you do! A series all about Marceline the Vampire Queen will premiere on Cartoon Network on November 18. Stakes is an eight-episode series that will explore how Marceline became the Vampire Queen we know and love. [Nerdist]
More Zombie Talk! Sometimes you have to talk about all the events of a TV episode with friends immediately, but if you can’t do that, it’s also nice to watch other people talk about said TV episode. That’s what Talking Dead with Chris Hardwick offers, and he’ll be hosting 15 new episodes of the series for season two of Fear the Walking Dead. [Nerdist]
Looking Forward. Star City is a hopping place. Damien Darhk will keep Team Green Arrow busy in the weeks to come, and you can see some of what’s ahead in Arrow in a snazzy sizzle reel from New York Comic Con. Much of the footage is from the season four premiere of Arrow, but there are glimpses of John Constantine, what happened to Ray Palmer, Sara’s resurrection, Lazarus Pit problems, and more. [Nerdist]
An Education. An adaptation of Lev Grossman’s The Magicians is headed to Syfy. The latest trailer–yep, it’s from New York Comic Con too–shows the series has a decidedly grown-up tone. Think Harry Potter: The College Years but with sex, drugs, and rock and roll. The show will premiere in January. [Slashfilm]
Werewolf Noir. Cinemax is working with George R.R. Martin. They’ve optioned TV rights for a novella of his called The Skin Trade. He wrote the “werewolf noir” in the late ’80s and tried to sell a pilot as early as 1991. They’re only in the beginning stages–the pilot script hasn’t been approved yet–but a series is a possibility. The Coolest. After watching Clark Gregg, Jeph Loeb, and Chloe Bennet talk to Dan Casey at New York Comic Con, I’m convinced they’re just the coolest. They discuss season three of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daisy Johnson, they interact with the crowd, and Gregg gets on a skateboard. [Nerdist]
