One of the best things to come out of the Emmy nominations every year is the sharing of VFX breakdowns. Studios that worked on sequences nominated for visual effects often turn to YouTube and Vimeo to share what they’ve done, and I will happily watch every single one of those videos—even when they feature gruesome zombie guts like the one for The Walking Dead. Blood Splattering Everywhere. I’m not the sort of person who gets easily grossed out, but clips from The Walking Dead consistently make my stomach flip. A recently released VFX reel for the AMC series from Stargate Studios covers highlights from the last five seasons and shows how many aspects of the series come together–from the mundane to the disgusting. Emphasis on the disgusting. Maybe I shouldn’t have watched the VFX breakdown right after eating. [Nerdist]
The Ark and the Ground. When The 100 returns with Season 3 next year, they’ll be taking a jump forward in time. The story will pick up months after the Season 2 finale, and I expect everyone to be thoroughly screwed up from those events. The regular cast will be joined by at least three new faces: Michael Beach (The Game) will play Pike, a member of the Ark, Zach McGowan (Black Sails) is on board as a rogue Grounder warrior, and Neil Sandilands will play Titus, a Grounder who “works to preserve and protect his Grounder civilization.” [TV Fanatic and Deadline]
Face-Off. Lady Gaga vs. Naomi Campbell. That’s a fight I didn’t know I wanted to see, but now that I know it’s happening, the world is a better place. The actresses will face off against each other in American Horror Story: Hotel. Campbell will be playing “a fashion editor who pays the ultimate price for her critiques.” TVLine reports she’ll share scenes with Gaga and Angela Bassett. [TVLine]
Be Ready. The January 24 premiere of The X-Files revival isn’t exactly around the corner, but it looks like we’re getting a slow and steady drip of teases. The latest teaser is similar to one we’ve seen before, but do you really care? It’s more Mulder and Scully. [Deadline]
All Good Things. You know how not fun it can be when our favorite television series linger too long and become stale? It’s painful to watch, and I’d almost always rather a show end earlier and go out on a high note. That’s happening with the Emmy-nominated Key & Peele. Co-creator and co-star Keegan-Michael Key told The Wrap that the current fifth season will be the final one. Key said, “This is our final season – and it’s not because of Comedy Central, it’s us. It was just time for us to explore other things, together and apart. I compare it to Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. We might make a movie and then do our own thing for three years and then come back and do another movie.” So in short, even though the show is ending, the duo will still work their magic together. The Boss. Abbie Mills will be reporting to a new boss in Season 3 of Sleepy Hollow. Lance Gross (Crisis) has been brought on board in the recurring role of Daniel Reynolds. He’s an FBI special agent in charge which means either the FBI is taking over at the Sleepy Hollow Police Department or Abbie finally made that leap. [Give Me My Remote]
Talk to Me. Uncle Jesse is adhering to his “Watch the hair” catchphrase. John Stamos’s character still has the all important sideburns in the upcoming Fuller House, and his ‘do is just as stylish as it was 20 years ago. New Eyes. Marvel’s Daredevil is lining up talent for Season 2, and one new addition to the crew is a different cinematographer. Martin Ahlgren, who was nominated for an Emmy for his recent work on Season 3 of House of Cards, is stepping in. Matthew J. Lloyd was responsible for Season 1 and established a moody but rich Hell’s Kitchen. I look forward to seeing what direction Ahlgren takes the series in. [/Film]
A Loving Tribute. The versatile and talented George Coe passed away on July 18. The actor has a long list of credits including roles in films such as The Mighty Ducks and voices in Guild Wars 2 and Archer. He played the long-suffering Woodhouse in Archer–Archer’s butler and sort of confidant. To say goodbye, FX cut together the above Woodhouse tribute video. [Nerdist]
