TV-Cap: Gotham Gets Chilly in New Season 2 Promo

It’s only December, but we already have news about renewals and cancellations for a handful of TNT series and one NBC show today. Read today’s TV-Cap to find out what’s coming and going, to see a promo for the back half of Season 2 of Gotham, to learn when Season 3 of Fargo will premiere, and more.

Watch Your Step. Gotham is icing over. Mr. Freeze made his first debut on Gotham in the Season 2 winter finale. Nathan Darrow’s playing the character, and he’ll have more screen time when the show returns on February 29. The very short promo above shows a storm coming into the city. [Comic Book Resources]

Cat’s Out of the Bag. Supergirl’s midseason finale aired on Monday, and it was the best episode of the series so far. Astra returned to cause trouble for Kara, Cat Grant got hacked, and there were several scenes with ladies kicking ass—in battle and in the boardroom. I admire Cat more each week. Read R.V.’s review of “Hostile Takeover.”

Off the Stage. NBC has canceled the variety show Best Time Ever. Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, the comedy wrapped its eight episode season with so-so numbers. [TVLine]

Going Big. How dramatic will Portlandia get in Season 6? If the new trailer is any indication, it’s going there… sometimes in a space suit. Portlandia will premiere on January 21 on IFC.

Giving and Taking Away. Are you ready for the list of cancellations and renewals from TNT? Okay. Let’s get the bad news out of the way first. Public Morals, Legends, and Agent X have been dropped. But on the upshot, Major Crimes has been renewed for a 13 episode Season 5, and The Librarians will return for a 10 episode third season. [TV Fanatic]

Ready for Laughter. Back in September, MTV picked up three pilots for comedies from women. Now, they’ve given series orders to all three projects. It’s a holiday miracle. Well, maybe miracle is a strong word choice. Anyway, Little Darlings from Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, an untitled series from Harry Elfont and Debora Kaplan, and a show with Nicole Byer as the leader are headed to the network. You can get complete synopses of the series from Deadline.

Idris Elba Wins. Is there any fictional character more intimidating than Idris Elba’s Luther? BBC America is bringing the character back in a three hour movie special airing this Thursday, and a clip from the event shows Luther staring down a guy with a gun without blinking. It’s impressive. Watch the clip at TVLine.

Weather Consideration. With Season 2 of Fargo over and done, you might be wondering when we’ll get Season 3. It won’t be in 2016. Noah Hawley talked to The Hollywood Reporter and pointed out something I didn’t think of: it’s a winter show. He said, “It’s a winter show, for better or worse, and this winter, there is not time to shoot another year before this winter is over.” Seems obvious now. Hawley is hoping Fargo will come back in spring 2017. The season will be set in 2010. [Nerdist]

Are you excited for Mr. Freeze to come to Gotham, or are you villain-ed out? Is there any such thing as too many villains? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

P.S.: Only two more days until Star Wars: The Force Awakens!
