It’s Monday, and all I can think about is how many cups of coffee I’m going to need to drink. Before I overload on caffeine though, let’s catch up. The weekend brought the Season 2 premiere of Star Wars Rebels, and the Season 3 finale of Orphan Black. We have recaps for both shows, a look at Fear the Walking Dead, a rumor about a solo Hawkgirl series, and much more.
On the Move. Desperation is in the air in the first promo for Fear the Walking Dead. Frank Dillane’s Nick is running from something unknown and he sure looks scared. He could be getting away from anything but given the title of the spinoff… Los Angeles is in trouble. The spinoff to AMC’s The Walking Dead will premiere in August. [Nerdist]
Waiting for Walter. AMC’s Better Call Saul jumps into the past and explores the days of Jimmy McGill before Breaking Bad. Some familiar faces have popped up in the prequel series so far, but there’s one face fans are very curious about: Walter White. Series co-creator Vince Gilligan talked to New York Daily News and said, “It would be great to see Walter White on Better Call Saul. It would be a shame if the show had its run — hopefully a very long run — and he never appeared.” It has be organic and fit the story, but Gilligan’s down for the idea. He also said White wouldn’t appear during Season 2. [Slashfilm]
Look to the Sky. We’re this close to getting a television station that airs shows based only on comic books. If that day comes, I bet The CW will be the network holding all the cards. They already have Arrow, The Flash, iZombie, and Legends of Tomorrow, and SpoilerTV is reporting they’re developing a series centered on Ciara Renée’s Hawkgirl. We’ve barely seen the character yet — she’ll be in Legends of Tomorrow — but it’s definitely a possibility. Even if the rumor is true, we don’t when the Hawkgirl series would take place and if it would cross over with the other DC Comics shows. [Comic Book Resources]
Vader Rules. In case you’ve forgotten, Darth Vader is one scary Sith. The Season 2 premiere of Star Wars Rebels aired Saturday, and Vader is in the picture in a big way. He’s very concerned about tracking the crew of the Ghost and stopping their rebellious activities, and it gets intense. Like, whoa. The Truth. If you’ve been missing Craig Ferguson on the Late Late Show, this news is for you. His first special since he left the show will air on September 10 on Epix. Just Being Honest was filmed in New York City and focuses on topics such as aging, sex, catch phrases, and shoes that look like feet. [Deadline]
Not Splitting Up. Caring about fictional characters is a real thing, and fans were concerned when they heard from The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean that Marge and Homer will be splitting up in next season. But is it just a vicious rumor? The above video reassures us that Marge and Homer will be together forever, but I don’t know if I’m convinced. What do you think? [Nerdist]
Fan Fiction-ish. Imagine being a huge fan of a franchise and being asked to write or pitch stories for that franchise. It’s like being granted a wish from a genie, and it happened to Star Trek fan Michael Gummelt. He’s been asked to pitch ideas to Paramount for a new Star Trek TV series called Star Trek Uncharted. Gummelt’s website already outlines several aspects of his ideas for the series, and it’s intriguing. I think we’re certainly due for another round of voyages on the Enterprise. [Slashfilm]
The Hotel. American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy has made several casting announcements for the next season of the anthology series on Twitter, but he has recently revealed one during an interview with Deadline. He said Denis O’Hare is coming back for Hotel, and they start filming in three weeks. He also confirmed there won’t be any musical aspects to Hotel, not even with Lady Gaga. He explained, “…I think that’s why Gaga was excited about it; it’s not something that she’s ever done before. It’s a pure acting part.” Read the complete interview at Deadline.
Answers and Questions. Season 3 of Orphan Black was a little action packed. Just a tiny bit. As usual, the series answered some questions and introduced new ones. I know that’s vague, but I don’t want to give anything away about the season finale that aired Saturday.
