TV-Cap: Drea de Matteo on AGENTS OF SHIELD, GAME OF THRONES VFX Magic, Steamy New OUTLANDER Trailer, & More

The calendar’s crowded with celebrations this weekend. Today is Friday the 13th, tomorrow we celebrate love with Valentine’s Day, and Monday we salute Presidents Day. Oh yeah, and this weekend also marks the 40th anniversary of Saturday Night Live and the release of Kingsman: The Secret Service (hey, Colin Firth in a dapper suit is something to celebrate). Before you start partying, catch up on the latest happenings in TV-land: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. recruits a new villain, Star Wars Rebels gets a seasone 1 finale date, Outlander releases a new sexy trailer, and more.

50 Shades of Plaid. Let’s all pause to give the marketing team at Starz a pat on the back. They’re leveraging the release of 50 Shades of Grey in their favor by showing a steamy trailer for Outlander before the film. The promo is focused on Jamie Fraser and his love for Claire and is all kinds of swoon-worthy. Hopefully the peek will bring new fans to the adventure/romance/drama.

Chalk One Up For the Villains. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Cal is getting an ally. Drea de Matteo (Sons of Anarchy) has been cast as baddie Karla Faye Gideon. In the pages of Marvel comic books, she’s a regular human but in S.H.I.E.L.D., she’s gifted and isn’t a fan of the organization. As of right now, it sounds like she’s set to join a single episode. Put Jimmy On Speed Dial. Better Call Saul delivered impressive premiere ratings and not too shabby numbers with its second episode. The Breaking Bad spinoff is worth checking out. Need convincing? Read Scott’s review of episode 2, “Mijo.”

Double the Fun. Team Arrow gets used to having Arrow back in Starling City, and it’s not a simple adjustment. Oliver really isn’t pleased about Laurel suiting up, but she stands her ground. Read Kyle’s review of “Canaries.” And before we move on from Arrow, you should know DC Collectibles is releasing John Diggle, Arsenal, and Felicity Smoak action figures this October. A Felicity Smoak action figure! Oh, happy day. See a gallery of the toys at IGN.

A Rebellious Finale. Lucasfilm has just announced the season one finale date for Star Wars Rebels: March 2nd. Mark your calendar! All previous episodes have been available a week before the air date on Watch Disney XD, but the finale will not be available on any platform prior to airing. We’ll all be surprised together, which is the way I prefer it. [Tracy Cannobbio]

More Adventures Ahead. TNT has given The Librarians another chapter by renewing the fantasy series for a 10-episode second season. The series is a spinoff of the Noah Wyle TV movies of the same name, and premiered in December. [Give Me My Remote]

Dracarys. Ever wonder how Daenerys Targaryen’s scaly children are brought to life in Game of Thrones? Oddly enough, they don’t use real dragons. It’s an intense process, and you can watch the transformation of pixels at Nerdist.

A Mission to 1963. Hulu is adapting Stephen King’s novel 11/22/63 into a 9-episode series, and James Franco is set to produce and star in the project. He’ll play Jake Epping, an English teacher who goes back in time with the goal of stopping the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. [Nerdist]

Who else will be making it a point to track down a Felicity Smoak action figure? Let us know in the comments.
