TV-Cap: BBC Announces DOCTOR WHO Spinoff, JESSICA JONES Visits a Bar, and More

Today’s installment of TV-Cap might make you fall head over heels for Jessica Jones. You’ve been warned. The latest teaser for the series from Marvel and Netflix adds some color to the character. Keep reading for that fantastic teaser, a gripping and intense trailer for season 11 of Supernatural, the striking American Horror Story: Hotel opening credits, and news about a Doctor Who spinoff.

Cleaning House. Jessica Jones is quickly becoming my favorite. In a new teaser for Marvel’s next Netflix series, Jessica goes to a bar, flips on Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation,” and takes a shot. And oh yeah, she steps around all the people in the bar she’s presumably taken out. Bad. Ass. Unless they didn’t deserve it, of course, but I’m guessing they did. I’m counting the days until the November 20 premiere. [IGN]

They Whispered No. The rumor mill is always swirling, and on Thursday, the latest and greatest was about the possibility of Zack Snyder going back to the Watchmen franchise and taking it to HBO as a television series. HBO commented on the rumor with both a yes and a no. They said “preliminary discussions regarding Watchmen have occurred but we have no additional information and no deals are in place.” The material in the graphic novel could certainly sustain a series, but I’d rather see someone else take it on than Snyder since he already did the film. Twin Peaks Expands. Add one more name to the Twin Peaks roster because Robert Knepper has been cast. As with most things about Showtime’s revival, details on Knepper’s role are under wraps. He’ll reportedly have a recurring role, but that’s about all we have. Not knowing is kind of fun, isn’t it? [Slashfilm]

This Is All Terrible. Need to feel some chills? Watch this new trailer for season 11 of Supernatural. I don’t know if business has ever been this serious. The haunting notes of “O, Death” make every scene more ominous — including ones with a clown and bunny. This music was played when Death was introduced in the series back in season five. And, if you’ll remember, the Winchesters sort of killed Death in the season 10 finale so… [TVLine]

Back to School. When you hear about the possibility of a Doctor Who spinoff, your brain might not immediately leap to a young adult series that takes place at a school. But that’s the story headed our way. BBC has announced Class, a YA series that takes place at the school where Clara Oswald works. It will air on BBC Three and has eight 45-minute episodes. The synopsis: “Incredible dangers are breaking through the walls of time and space, and with darkness coming, London is unprotected. With all the action, heart and adrenaline of the best YA fiction (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Hunger Games), this is Coal Hill School and Doctor Who like you’ve never seen them before.” The show will premiere sometime in 2016. I don’t feel super excited, but I’m also not super skeptical. [Nerdist]

Political Opposition. We recently learned Michael Madsen would be joining the cast of Powers for season two as SuperShock, and he’ll be joined by Enrico Colantoni. The Person of Interest alum has a recurring role on the PlayStation Network show as Senator Bailey Brown. He used to be a Power, but now he’s a leader in Anti-Powers legislation. I support putting Colantoni in all the things. The character is original to the series rather than being pulled from the comics by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. It’s All Connected. The Marvel Cinematic Universe includes its series on Netflix and ABC so the potential for crossover is there. We’ve seen characters from the films on S.H.I.E.L.D., and there could be more in the future. At a recent Q&A for an Avengers: Age of Ultron Blu-ray event, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said, “I think that’s inevitable at some point, as we’re plotting the movies going forward and they’re doing the shows. The schedules don’t always quite match up to make that possible—it’s easier for them, they’re more nimble and faster and produce things quicker than we do, which is one of the main reasons you see the repercussions of Winter Soldier or Age of Ultron in the show.” Read more of his statement at Collider. Checking Out. American Horror Story: Hotel will debut on Fox on October 7, but if you’re dying to see what they’ve cooked up for the opening credits, there’s no need to wait. The imagery in the intro is creepy, bloody, and strangely lovely. These aren’t the kind of credits you fast forward through. [Nerdist]

More Secrets. Game of Thrones is another set where secrets are king, including the identity of the character Joe Naufahu is playing. The actor has been booked for a multi-episode arc. Hmm. I’m guessing he’s a member of the big khalasar we saw at the end of season five. Who do you think he is? [Deadline]

He’s Baaack. The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season three premiere showed an organization rather occupied with the Inhuman dilemma. Grant Ward had an episode off, but he’ll be back this week. A new clip shows Ward is alongside Kebo; they’re hard at work rebuilding Hydra. [Nerdist]
