TV-Cap: A New DOCTOR WHO Monster, Franz Drameh Joins FLASH/ARROW Spinoff, & More

Another week has come and gone. How does that keep happening? I just realized April is almost over. Wow. Many network series are just a few weeks away from airing season finales but don’t start worrying about what you’ll do when they’re all over. Cable channels such as Syfy and USA have you covered with summer premieres and so do streaming services like Netflix. You’ll be fine, I promise. In fact, today’s TV-Cap has Syfy’s summer schedule as well as a look at a new Doctor Who monster, another addition to The Flash and Arrow spinoff, and more.

Going Metal. Though I’m a fan of classic Doctor Who monsters, I can’t help but get excited anytime a new one is introduced–like this big metal villain from the upcoming season. Captioned as a “Block 3 monster,” the armored creature or person reminds me of Big Daddy from BioShock. It’s massive, and the look of the armor’s weathering makes me wonder if it’s been residing in water. Creepy! We don’t know which episode this monster will appear in–Block 3 likely means something in regards to the shooting schedule–but director Ed Bazalgette is seen in the above picture and he’s directing episodes five and six. Nanda Parbat Is Popular. Last week’s Arrow left Oliver with a difficult choice. With Thea severely injured, he had to decide whether to go Ra’s al Ghul and accept the villain’s offer in order to use the Lazarus Pit to save Thea. Wednesday’s episode saw all sorts of things play out, and you can and should read Kyle’s recap of “The Fallen” to catch up and make sure you didn’t miss a beat.

Another Character, No Title. At this point, I’m going to assume we’re basically going to have the entire cast set for The Flash and Arrow spinoff before we get a title. The latest addition to the roster is Franz Drameh (Edge of Tomorrow). He’s playing Jay Jackson, officially described as “a former high school athlete, whose pro-career was derailed by injury. Now making ends meets as an auto mechanic, Jay will come to have a surprising affiliation to the S.T.A.R. Labs crew.” Maybe he’ll become Cyborg? Maybe? [CBR]

The Ultimate Monster. Just because Sam is busy trying to find a cure for the Mark of Cain doesn’t mean that monsters take a break. The next episode of Supernatural, “Angel Heart,” takes the Winchesters to a smart-ass teenage girl who is apparently some sort of baddie. Watch the above teaser to see her put Dean in his place. A Special Goodbye. David Letterman is stepping down from his hosting duties on the Late Show on May 20. He’s been in the role for over 20 years, and that deserves an extraordinary sendoff. To that end, CBS will air a 90-minute prime time special on May 4. David Letterman: A Life on Television will be hosted by Ray Romano and will cover Letterman’s entire career. “There Will Be Chaos.” The first season of Gotham only has two episodes left, and though it’s already been a busy season packed with villains, it looks like it’s wrapping up with a bang. The above teaser shows Cobblepot and Nygma (man, I love comic book names) looking as crazy as ever, and it teases the… Batcave? [CBR]

Summer Planning. Remember the days when nothing new aired on TV during the summer and you actually felt like leaving the house to play? Those days disappeared many years ago when networks started debuting quality programming during the formerly wide open months. Syfy has filled up its summer schedule with Defiance, Dark Matter, Killjoys, Sharknado 3, and more. Get the complete listing at Deadline.

Survival of the Strongest. Remember Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens? No, neither did I. The series was picked up by Fox, and it’s a horror comedy starting Jamie Lee Curtis, Lea Michele, and Abigail Breslin among others. Murphy describes it as Heathers meets Friday the 13th (um, yes, please!), and he shared some photos and information on the characters and plot with Entertainment Weekly.

Another Wedding. It’s time for another ceremony on Game of Thrones, and I can’t help but wonder what color will be associated with Tommen and Margaery’s wedding. We’ve had the Red Wedding and the Purple Wedding so maybe we’ll get the Chartreuse Wedding. Or maybe it will go perfectly and no one will die. Maybe. See a gallery of photos from this Sunday’s “High Sparrow” at TV Fanatic.
