Triumph the Insult Comic Dog Faces Off Against World Cup Fans

Robert Smigel’s puppetry of a Yugoslavian (or Montenegrin) Mountain Hound roasting everyone he possibly can has been the source of some of Conan O’Brien most classic segments throughout the years. From Late Night with Conan O’Brien to The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien at NBC and now Conan on TBS, the bow tie and cigar donned by the foul-mouthed canine known as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog have made for some of the best showcases of comedic roasting ever. Now that The World Cup is in full swing, Conan sent Triumph to various neighborhoods around New York City to see how many different ways Smigel could roast as many countries as possible.

In fact, this edition of the renowned dog-on-the-street segment got so much good stuff that they have it cut up into two separate segments. So far, Triumph has made his way through fan camps of Colombia, Uruguay, Greece, Italy, England, Ivory Coast, and Japan, joyfully insulting  anyone and everyone. There might be more to come, which wouldn’t be surprising since The World Cup hasn’t even made it to it’s actual knockout-style portion of the tournament.

Another layer of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog’s hilarity is how obvious is is that Triumph is a puppet. If you look closely to the edge of the frame in both segments, you can see Robert’s arm, the brim of his baseball cap, and, in some cases, his face. This lets you in on the reality of a grown man roasting you via a dog puppet, which is a hysterical concept all on its own.

What other sporting events do you think should get the poop-on-you-treatment from Triumph?
