Travel Oregon’s Studio Ghibli-Inspired Video is “Only Slightly Exaggerated”

New Mexico may be “the land of enchantment,” but Oregon’s newest tourism video makes the state look like a magical realm pulled straight from a Studio Ghibli world. Travel Oregon’s “Only Slightly Exaggerated” has the lush visuals of a Hayao Miyazaki film as it gives the state’s landmarks a magical makeover. The result is a stunningly beautiful vision.

This short was written and produced by Wieden + Kennedy, with animation by Psyop and Sun Creatures Studio. Oregon Symphony provided the score, which helped give the video a dream-like sensation. Visitors from outside the state may not realize that many of the settings are actual locations within Oregon. For example, the image below is a representation of Crater Lake, which may or may not have spirit guides in reality. We’ll let you decide.

The short also touches upon Oregon’s hot air balloon rides over wine country, Haystack Rock, a pack of wild horses, the Portland Dragon Boat festival, the scenic rivers, and what we can only assume to be the God of Rabbits. The motto for this ad campaign sums it up quite nicely: “Whoever you are, wherever you come from, and whenever you return, Oregon welcomes you and your daydreams.” We can’t think of a better way to describe this closing image of whales swimming through the clouds.” If Oregon was actually the fantasy land seen in this short then we’d never leave!
