Trailer for Joe Carnahan’s STRETCH Arrives in All Its Twisted Glory

For nearly a month now, we’ve spent some time telling you about a movie you probably haven’t heard of yet: Stretch. From Narc and A-Team director Joe Carnahan, Stretch stars Patrick Wilson as Stretch, a down-on-his-luck limo driver who’s $6,000 in gambling debt. To try and get himself out of it, he picks up a passenger the likes of which he’s never dealt with before, but could hold the key to his salvation. Throughout the night, however, Stretch begins to realize his passenger is far more than he bargained for.

Now, with its release day fast approaching, a trailer for the new film has finally been released via Entertainment Weekly. Take a look below:

The story of how Stretch made it to VOD is an intriguing one. Originally green-lit by Universal for a budget of $5 million and set for a March 2014 release, the film was pulled in January because the studio realized it would cost them a minimum of $20 million to market the picture. After that, everything went into limbo… that is, until recently, when Carnahan revealed the action/comedy would drop through VOD outlets in October.

To keep with the low-scale, punk rock vibe of both the film and its release, the director has taken to social media to market his creation, asking anyone within earshot to give it a look. What we can tell you is, we’ve seen the film, and when it comes to the kind of funny, original material cinema lovers are clamoring for, Stretch has it in spades.

In many ways, it’s fitting that a trailer for a brand new Michael Mann film was released on the same day, because Stretch will feel to many like a twisted remix of the modern classic, Collateral. Like that film, Stretch deals in ideas concerning identity and choice. So, if that piques your interest, this is definitely one you want to check out.

Stretch hits iTunes and Amazon on October 7, and all other VOD outlets on October 14, 2014.
